Red Hot Chili Pepper appreciation

Ok first of all, i need to say that I would very very strongly advise ANY music lover to get the Red Hot Chili Peppers Live at Slane Castle DVD and watch it. I honestly believe it is one of the best live shows a band has ever put on in the history of mankind. Maybe not THE best but VERY VERY easily among the best 10.

So, lets talk about what we love abt RHCP. I love how they sound as good or even better live, their natural musicality, flea's RETARDED antics live, frusciante's "guitar face" (if i ever play e guitar, which may be pretty soon, that SHALL be my face).

Hell i think they are the best band of this generation. Comparable to the likes of acdc, led zep, beatles, backstreet boys (HAHA kidding)

..

yeah, that's a damn good DVD concert. watched them live in 2002, but they've really mellowed and aged alot. can't compare with the BSSM period.

I loved the DVD. Many magical moments such as the 'Californication' intro jam, and the outro solo with his L6 DL-4 on 'Don't Forget Me'.

I feel that it is not just the band. Production wise, the DVD is truly among the top few live DVDs out there.

Favourite cds are 'BSSM' as well as 'Californication' and 'By the Way', in which they had a different musical approach. One Hot Minute wasn't that bad, I like 'Aeroplane' and 'Tearjerker'.

Stadium Arcadium was disappointing for me though.. Too many filler tracks IMO.

slane castle lol. that is so yesterday.
Their newer concerts are so much more 'colourful' than slane castle. I have more than 10 live concert audio bootlegs/ livefeeds. I find it very interesting to collect their live shows , because they will never play the same song, the same way twice.

and i'm crazy over their intro jams, Californication jams , dont forget me jams, cant stop jams, throw away your television jams, give it away jams, hump de bum jams
oh well, if anyone planning to do a red hot style jam, please count me in as 'John Frusciante'
SA was a great album for me.

I enjoyed SA too, but I kinda miss the days where you would put on a RHCP album and be kept on the edge of your seat by the brazen edgyness and attitude of their approach. They kinda mellowed there, hope it's just a mid-life crisis and not a permanent thing.

That said, no other band puts a groove in my shoes the way they do, courtesy of Flea. And this may sound odd, but they are a band with a lot of soul, underneath the groovy funk.

no.. i dont think they've mellowed 'too' much, the mellowness is just in its right amounts. Its a direction change is a progression not a regression. I feel that the mellowness is just overrated by casual fans but underrated by hardcore fans.
they're much more creative and colourful live, than ever before,
just compare a 'give it away' performed live in the early 90s and a give it away performed live recently, there is a very noticeable improvement.
Frusciante's solo works even from the niandre's era had never sounded anything like what he did in rhcp at all. He is constantly changing his style, just compare the slane castle times to the present, there is a very big difference in his playing style, tone, choice of notes, choice of guitars. Now he pretty much uses his 62'strats for almost everything. So i doubt there would be anything of the niandre's stuff left in him

That DVD is good. I think I'll watch it again this afternoon. John Frusciante has an awesome orgasmic guitar face, I seriously envy his guitar skills. He is simple, but he makes sense with what he plays.

agree its one of the best live dvd i've ever watched...
very impressed by their energy, as well as the arrangement of songs

I like their earlier stuff, more funky, raw and in yer face. The albums after BSSM tend to sound more and more generic and mellowed down a lot.

Yes, I'm donning my coffee shop ah pek in blue boxers and stained pagoda tees proclaiming that they don't make em like they used to anymore stance.

Yeah, they got a little too bland after BSSM. They just don't dare to be otherworldly like they used to. Maybe they just found their sound with Californication or something? Cause after that, their songs seem to lean alot more to a melodic side rather than a pure funk attack or fun, bouncy music. Kinda like how Foo Fighters are turning out after the years.

Good band, but just nothing special anymore.

and their so called hit singles all sounds like under the bridge.

nevertheless a good band like pre black album Metallica

i like john frusciate's style. i know his solos in Scar Tissue isnt much but he manages to do it darn well that in a way its make me "high"
