Recording Using Guitar Rig 4

Okay.

I was thinking of recording some stuff through my com just for fun, using my amp's line out into my com.

However, I only have the SOFTWARE, Guitar Rig 4.

And i found out that i can't just plug my guitar cable into the mic input with a use of an adapter, because my regular sound card would not be good enough.

Is it true that i have to get something like a Line6 Guitarport, or any other USB guitar interface, to use together with my Guitar Rig 4?

Is there any other cheaper alternative other than the Guitarport?

guitarport is one of the cheapest one already. Most audio interface cost at least 2x the price of guitarport and much more. Anyway, citymusic having year end sale with the guitar port at $80. Theres prolly no other interface that will cost less, brand new, in the market.

if you wanna use guitar rig or any other softwares(including the software to record your sound into, from guitar rig) then yes, you will need an audio interface. Theres no other way round it. The audio interface is the link which does necessary conversion between your instrument signal and recording domain in digital format.

let me guess.. you downloaded guitar rig 4 from bittorrent?

line 6 Toneport GX is slightly cheaper than guitar port. Last i saw, it was around $60. i dont know if city music still have it though.

hifi - Don't say so loud la hah. I doubt they have the Toneport anymore. The list of products from the Year End Sale pdf doesn't include the Toneport.

I use Presonus USB. my recording software is cubase studio 5 and guitar rig 4 plug in, saving money for eastwest ministry of rock , so ex bleah

Likui - Your Presonus USB would be similar to the Guitarport yes? And would i have to get a recording software too? Or could i just use Guitar Rig on its own.

And i just checked out the Ministry of Rock. Amazing program.

yea the function is similar but i'm not sure of the specs, well you can get the guitar rig session to go with your guitar rig 4 it's really good better than the presonus USB. Well depends what you want to do if u want a recording software, if you want just to make a track and jam over it then no need, if you want to make drum tracks bass tracks etc and record then mix , master etc, make an album or u know upload your song on myspace yea then u need a separate recording software.
yea ministry of rock is amazing, the price can rock your pocket quite amazingly too

I doubt i'd need a recording software in that case. Just very eager to try out Guitar Rig 4.

So as long as i get a USB interface like Guitarport, i'm all set to play through my com?

yea, erm by the way if you don't use the guitarport u suppose to plug your cable into your line in input not the mic input, well the Presonus USB i got comes with Cubase LE 4 so yea u can record using that it's better.

The sound comes out, but Guitar Rig doesn't recognize it.

So i think i'd have to get the Guitarport soon!

if you try direct sound thru line in u will still need asio file to run the guitar rig software for your sound card to channel transfer the sound to your speakers or monitor but the sound is not that pretty good when you line thru an audio interface. I just got myself a zoom zfx c5.1t pedal audio interface at citymusic for an offer. lucky me it was last piece...hehe

it can work have to do some settings to your guitar rig i'm sure

dude maybe u didnt setup ur audio configuration properly thats why gr4 cannot reconise the input.

i tried running gr4 with direct input and the sound is quite horrible. after i switched over to my pod ux1, its alot better.
