recording music on pc: how to?

hello,

I'd like to record a couple of tracks I have written.
I have my guitars (intend to use 2 different guitars on the tracks) + a line 6 pedal board + a laptop pc (2go of ram)

what would I need to get to record the guitar + create drums + bass lines? (I may be able to record the bass too since I have one home)

do I need to get an external soundcard? do I need a mixer? will the signal be jammed using the line6 pedal board??

I'd appreciate your help :)
maybe you have some links where everything is explained (I am a newbie...)

thanks!

Some Line6 POD has built-in USB for direct to computer recording. Which model is yours?

From Line6.com, Line 6 - POD Family

USB - PODXT Live’s USB jack lets you connect to most computers and record directly to a wide variety of popular recording software packages. We’ve even included a USB cable for use with our GuitarPort® Windows® based software and PODXT Live Mac®/Windows® driver software. All this software - along with directions for using it - is free for you to download at www.line6.com.

indeed: I can use a wide variety of programs to record the guitar.
the thing is: I don't know whether I need additional devices to record (external sound card? given the quality of what comes in a laptop...)

I'd like to record drums/bass lines too.

I really don't know what to start with.

cubase seems out of my reach (I am not a professional and I won't have time to learn the ropes).

a small home studio using my laptop should be easy to set up no?? :)
