Recording guitar on computer

Hey guys,

I need some help as to how to be able to connect my guitar to the computer and record. I want to be able to record layers and fills etc. I had a transformer jack but you cant just plug in and play right?

What are the basic software and hardware required? The line6 rifftracker seemed like a good choice for home recording etc. Anyone care to enlighten me on where i can purchase this etc. And where i can get relevant products.

apart from the interface you'd also need a sequencer of sorts to lay your tracks down. there are free ones available off the net or if you buy computer music mags. do you have a budget and what kind of setup do you have currently?

if you are only laying down elec guitar tracks then i suppose something like Line6 will do the trick. cheers
