Recommended mod for my Fender Mustang?

Hello guys, I'd like to seek some advice.

I've got a MIJ Fender Mustang MG69.

I've considered changing the pickups, and maybe the string gauge (It's currently Light or Extra light, I dunno lol) I also think it needs some rewiring as it has this hum/noise that's quite loud at higher gains, it get's less when I run both pickups(single coil)

I'd prefer more of a Rock sound, currently into JRock/Pop

I've heard some friends that recommend other guitar brands like Ibanez and what not, but I don't really feel like purchasing another guitar as I've paid quite some money for the Mustang.

I'm afraid there isn't much choice when it comes to after-market pickups for Mustangs, and you just have to live with that hum, it's natural with the single coils in that thing.

for hum, you could use a noise gate pedal. the beta aivin noise gate does the job well

Yep. There are hardly any Mustang pickups around.
