Hi all,

Im looking for my 2nd guitar and i need help in choosing a PRS

Any recommendations? a good clean tone would be perfect... pls state the price also :D

ok thks, but whats the price range for the singlecuts?
and would there be a difference in sound with a stoptail or a tremelo bridge?

generally, to me the doublecuts sing better and sound clearer, the singlecuts have more low end thump and sound thicker, great for power chords and rhythm and then the singlecut trem is a compromise of the 2.

Prices range from the 3k no-frills margin all the way to 5k for the artist package.

My prs was my 2nd electric guitar too. A big jump from my $380 crafter.

Basically:
Custom 22 - vintage to modern rock: the sing/woman tone
Custom 24 - hot leads and metal: supposedly "most versatile"
McCarty - vintage rock
Singlecut - vintage to modern rock with extra oomph for rhythm
Singlecut trem - Compromise between the cu22 and singlecut

Do note that this is what the stock pickups aim to achieve. All of them are highly versatile instruments and by just changing the pups you can obtain different types of tone.

It is extremely hard to tell the difference actually. Mark Tremonti of creed used his signature Tremonti Tribal in One Last Breath but for Higher he's actually using a doublecut soapbar with the tremonti bridge. And yet in others he's using a singlecut trem. Surprised? They all sound so similar.

Cookie: yes there is a difference between a stop tail and a trem. I don't know about you, but to me the difference wasn't big enough to sway me towards the stop tail as I much preferred the profile of the trem when palm muting.

ok thks:)

will take the price into consideration... man, 4k is 1 heavy blow man :D

im looking more into the clean tone rather than the heavy type. my 1st guit was a craftsman. got it for 150. good for its price but the pickups was really dull and couldnt bring out the tone. PRS would be the perfect solution for me... but the price is heavy:D

i personally chose a no-frills mccarty over an artist package custom for the really warm tone..plus it has a coil split on the tone knob. i've never played a singlecut so i can't say anything about them, but i love the way the doublecuts hang on a strap, and every doublecut i've played has a HUGE sound. the mccarty has a much more vintage sound than the standard and custom, which i think are better for slightly heavier music. my favorite so far, however, is the mccarty soapbar. biggest sounding soapbar pickups i've ever heard, nothing even comes close for me, and i think its the most versatile.

either way, every single american prs is an amazing instrument. for clean stuff, i'd definitely recommend a mccarty with hums or soaps. keep in mind, too, that different prs models have different necks. the mccarty comes with a "wide fat" neck, which is a little more chunky than the standard or custom. you could also think about getting a standard/custom with mccarty electronics, which they make but davis might not have stock of.

dudes i'm not sure if i was dreaming or something but i seem to recall davis selling a singlecut for $900 :?

can anyone confirm this?

if i'm not mistaken, the prs se models are around that price and they're made in korea.

waa...2nd guitar and u getting a PRS already...hai..im still working my butt of to get my hands on one...like almondx said..a 'original' PRS can easily cost up to 3 to 5k...so i think with tt kind of money..u can get alot of other stuff...like a very gd amp..and ton of efx...

so if i were u..i will plan how to spent tt budget of mine properly...cos ur tone doesnt jus come from ur guitar..it comes from alot diff aspect...

There's also the maple neck CE's if you're not dead set on a mahogany on mahogany set neck.

What might be helpful of course is if you tell us what sort of music you're looking to do. It'll give us an idea of your reference point for clean sounds.

I went for a PRS after 9 years of playing the same one guitar. The CU24 is very articulate and cuts through the mix really well. It's the most comfortable guitar I've ever played (wide thin neck) - playability and very well balanced on a strap. The kind of quality I'd pay for something at the same price range as a Gibson.

I remember that. There's a CE24 going for 2.4k on there now.

Waitaminute. I think I know that guitar. It's some Softie's single coil Kinman project.
