recommendation on headphones?

grado sr60s are great, but they're open-backed

yeah, go with the grado.

my friend recently bought a pair at 120. the audio is clear, you can hear the different layers of instruments.

not to mention the design is damn sex. to me lah

Noone really mixes on earphones though. Headphones yes.

earphones are actually very important to mix with. most people listen to a lot of their music on earphones since the advent of portable mp3 players, so much of your audience will be listening to whatever you put out on earphones. it's very important to make sure that any mix you put out sounds good on all sorts of mediums, especially (imo) earphones and car stereos.

that being said, yes, nobody in their right mind would mix solely on earphones.
