Recommend Amp <150

not really. cabs are actually cheaper than amps. especially combo amps. for a designated pair like epi valve jr, the cab itself coz around half of the head.

150 dollar budget means its prob just for home practice use right? just wondering if would it be worth it going for tone, pushing the budget, trying out different amps and all that cos theres no intention to record or perform with it.

saying that, i do also realize i would be much more likely to play longer and better if i sounded good as opposed to just 'having sound'

im actually thinking of getting sth small for myself also but cant decide if i should go for a pathfinder etc in the 150 range or push the budget abit maybe get sth tubey that i wouldn mind carrying around and making part of my sound.

combo or head+cab would be the next headache heh so what yall think? theres been plenty of recommendations for the 150 price range so how about the next level like maybe 150-3/400? and wuld it be worth going to that range or get a 150 one, save up, and jump to a proper tube one like an AC15/30 etc..

save up for a really good amp. its really worth it. i find the amp is responsible for a lot of the tone. oh and btw the johnsons can be bought at ranking, it sounds real good when you just max all the knobs haha gets quite loud too

Max i can go is $200.

For that budget, you can also consider the Orange Crush - $200 at Yamaha sale (still on I think). You can view a comparison between the Pathfinder 15R with the Orange - there's a youtube vid somewhere.

Personally, I don't think you should spend more than this for a first practice amp (there will always be something for a few dollars more to consider, and something else a few dollars more than that). Either of these of these 2 are keep-worthy even when you progress to something "bigger" in future, so you won't lose out.

Try as many amps as possible. Dont listen to people who say this amp good, that amp good. I also can say my amp damn good. You decide yourself. happy searching!!!

Wait a sec. Swee Lee's having another sale on 14th. Should i go? Can my budget get anything? Hoping theres a 50% off for roland 20x.

Yes, you should certainly go to Swee Lee PROVIDED the amp you want to get is available from the sale. Meaning, like leecs suggests, you have tested the amps from diff places, know which ones you like, and then decide which ONE you are actually going to get, and only THEN buy the chosen amp.

No point being the first guy in the Swee Lee queue on the 14th, and then not knowing which ones to get - bro, you will NOT have time on 14th June to decide. Therefore you only have today (what's left of it) and tomorrow to go to Swee Lee and test (i.e. if you are going to consider any of their amps -Laney, Ibanez, Fender, etc). And go to City Music (Vox), Davis (Marshall), Yamaha (Orange), beez (Kustom).

But really, I don't want to get rushed into this. Take your time and IMO, you will be happier with your purchase in the end.

I agree. I can also say my SX 10 watt practice amp that went through dunno how many Softies's hand and finally bought for 30 bucks by me to be good and underrated, but that's just what I say.

When it comes to amps, the truth of what is good or bad is all up to your own ears.
