Its not so much the pickups than the combination of amp and eq and the guitar as a whole.
Take a mahogany (duh) Les Paul, dump the exact same pups (TZ/PAF Pro) in, and try it. Nope, nowhere near.
In fact, the TZ is a VERY smooth pup.
If you are on a budget, go look out for some of the more gritty sounding overdrives/distortion boxes. That would change your tone the most, if you are on a budget.
Else, look at the guitar, the woods, the amp - the EQ and so on so forth.
Oh. The material used for PG's picks? Makes a difference too.
