Reccomendations for home studio recording? (Urgent)

I'm currently looking for a decent cheap mixer and monitors.

Also are there any good recommended websites for audio mixing? (Tips, Etc)
So far,in terms of quality, I could not see any significant improvements to the mix being produced.

I've only tried out the Sonar LE softwares for audio recording.

Are there any other specific softwares which I could use ? (Garageband seems great)
Also which types of mics should i use?
What should the setup to the computer be like? (For Guitars,Etc)

Maybe you could list out all the equipment you have currently? Also, are you recording a band or just a solo singer/song-writer?

I am recording a band. Trying to start from scratch. Currently do not have any recording equipment at home yet. Only the instruments itself.

Just list all instruments.
Or at least how many and what instrument that you regularly used.
You can use just one or many mics to do a band recording.
