RANDALL VS MARSHALL

subversion u are right in a sense that saying 'to each his own' (paraphrased)
however i wouldnt say its personal philosophy. in general tubes are warmer sounding. and cleans tones are alot clearer, rounder and fuller. the type of tubes and speakers (one of the most important factor of amps) would then determine clarity, not really just because its Solid state.

I dont wanna mention about much gain/distortion because i do think that solid state gain/distortion is better in many ways for heavier sounds of rock and metal. but for a blues type or crunch/overdrive, tube amps seem to do more wonders.

but in the end, the sound thats produced by the amp is heard in different ways for different people. so i once again agree that 'To Each His Own'

For 15 watts, I say plug your guitar to a radio. No need to waste money lah

It is better to get a slightly bigger amps like 25W or 30W which have better sound definition.

quote I_M_Ken: in general tubes are warmer sounding.

isn't this what i acknowledged in my previous post?

the fact that there are players out there who choose to go with solid state units even though tube amps are warmer, present better cleans, etc., shows that it's the individual's choice of tone, tube 'superiority' or otherwise. no use exalting a certain manifestation when it has no personal appeal.

why am i advocating for the solid state when my latest amp is a tube Marshall...? :smt069

Vox AD30VT(30watt tube) vs Marshall Microstack 15MSll. What's the difference in tone?Intending to upgrade.

Honestly, the draw of the microstack is primarily the form factor (it looks uber cool). At the microstack's price point, there are other more versatile options - the valvetronix, as you mentioned easily comes to mind. For practice amps, these can't be beat, IMO. Tonewise though, I don't find anything objectionable about the Microstack. In fact, I was blown away at the clean tone I was getting on a showroom unit MG15 which I used to test their Floyd Rose DSOT. Of course, it helped that the stock pickups of the DSOT were fairly good.

BTW, just to clarify, the Valvetronix line is not full tube. Power amp section is still solid state.

Phew... I'd finally know how to use the "equalization" knobs on my CRATE15r watt amp. The sound is damn freaking awesome. The overdrive mode can get me OD-1 kinda sound. Just need to tweak the Gain,Level,Low,Mid and High. Phew I don't want to change my amp anymore! Cause initially I don't know how to use the "equalization" knobs and i though that the GAIN and LEVEL is the knobs by itself. I guess newbies like me dont know how to tweak the amp to it's maximum potential that's why keep complaining and intending to change. Really way worth every penny.

[Settings] Gain.6 Level.4 Low.4 Mid.4 High.8 Reverb.8 (this is just a gauge just need abit more detail in tweaking will sound even better!)

haha... I need it to be abit higher cause I doing the SOLO for GNR "sweet child O' mine"... Now I'v those tubey sound of OD-1. I shall let my multi-effect rest for a couple of days. Muahaha
