A good friend, Damien Tan passed away today. Stewart a.k.a aquanaut broke the news to me this evening, they were on the same dive assignement somewhere in Johore. No details available yet but apparently he was involved in a dive mishap. He was rushed to Changi Hospital from Johore but apparently did not survive.

I first met Damien many years ago during a Radio Heart Concert where he and also recently departed buddy Corey Nonis were performing. This was the beginning of what would be a great friendship. Damien performed with me in several bands including sessionist for the Shades and later Syne of Tyme as well as fronting the Igor Horror club house band, Country Club gigs and numerous other events. Damian was also the lead guitarist of the band 6T9 who were plying their trade in Orchard Towers. For a while, we even performed 2 pc accoustically at "Fat Frogs Cafe (Now called Timbre).

Damian possessed an incredible talent for playing the guitar and singing. I enjoyed our harmonies and cutting heads wih him. Ironically, the last time we performed together was at the recent Corey Nonis Tribute gig at Terry's Tavern.

Now he's gone forever.

- clip of Damian or "DT" as he was known performing with Shades.

First time I ever met him,, he was performing this song by Poison which became staple for him over the years and would be how we would remember him best.

Every Rose has its thorn.
Just like everynight has it's dawn.
Just like every cowboy, sings a sad, sad song.
Every rose has it's dawn...

From all your friends, so long DT.

I've got to know Damien from Roomful of Blues when he was playing with the band with Gilbert, Mark and Sabri way back about 3 - 4 years ago. Still manage to catch him around the Excelsior area when I am at the shop and chat with him a few times. Just got to know of this news last night when I was at Roomful of Blues, all the regulars were pretty shocked and sad that someone as talented as him has to leave us in such a manner. Its a pity though at such a young age.

The folks at Roomful of Blues shall remember him fondly as the Hoochie Coochie Man who Shot the Sheriff.

Rest In Peace

As they say, good people are always called up by heaven early.

Don't know why but I am really starting to believe in it.

My late ma passed on at a tender age of 50 due to cancer.

May her soul rest in peace with God almighty.
