Question on SGs

hey guys..

I just got myself a Gibson SG.

Just wondering, is it me or is the neck wobbly... pretty much like a bass guitar neck..

Just shaking the guitar feels as if I'm playing with a tremolo bar.

Also wondering, has anyone setup their SGs with 11s? I've just left it tuned to Eb for now, not too sure if the neck can take all that tension.

Thanks!

Wow, you mean its that sensitive?
The pitch will change just from shaking it?

How's the action of the guitar ?

11s will be fine, some people use 12s with SGs.
Are you fretting while moving the neck up and down?

If so you're probably doing some slight vibrato.

the action is very playable..

I do fret when I slide up and down sometimes...

It's just that I've never had a guitar that will sound like I'm playing with the tremolo bar when I hold the body and shake the guitar.. Macham playing guitar heroes.. hahaha..

Spoke to Kaycee.. he told me it's all right.. oh well..

Regarding gibson SG as well.. Some pple push their pickup into the body until it is flat and level with the pickguard. and others have it come out of the body, nearer to the strings.. Which is the supposed way, and which is better??

I have it both.. My neck pickup is flat into the body, my bridge pickup is protuding by quite a lot..

Can't really see it from this pic but:

Yea.. that's y I wonder what's the best position.. =\ Actually what happen was that I lend my Gibson SG standard to my friend.. and he actually pushed in both pickup to flush with the pickguard... guitar is still playable.. but my heart sank when I was the change... =( Thinking if I should accept that change or adjust back to my past setup position..

I constantly change the height.. It affects the input, volume, tone etc..

I like my bridge pickup high so that it has more growl and treble for rhythm and my neck pickup low so that it sounds smoother and less trebly for lead..
However, the bridge is noticeably louder than the neck, so I use pedals to counter that.. Experiment lah.. Some people are scared to tweak after finding a sweet spot.. Who knows what you might find!

usually you adjust till both of them are similar vols so you can play with different pups for different tones but then again its up to your preference.
