question on amp sound

hey guys! i noticed that my tone has a little boxiness when i sit right beside the amp and play. however when i sit far away. the tone sounds heavenly

my amp is beside my bed and my computer is behind my bed. i usually sit at the computer and play guitar

may i ask if the boxiness will also be heard when i mic up my amp for live performances. or i will get the nice tone when i sit far away?

or is the boxiness cos im using a small 15 watt ss amp?

rah i dunno whether this makes sense. maybe someone who has the same experience can help me talk about it? or give me some advice

Yes. Small wattage amps with small speakers tend to give boxy tones. Try running an EQ after your main drive (be it a pedal or the inherent preamp distortion of your amp i.e. through the efx loop) and EQ to taste. That'll help to get the tone that you desire.

i dont think its the size of the speaker or even the amp for that matter.

it probably is due to the fact that when you sit further away, the sound waves have enough space to reach your ear fully, as opposed to when you are sitting close by; the sound is projected at your feet

if possible, try elevating the amp so that it is closer to your ear, you should be able to hear the more defined tones that you probably are talking about. alternatively, just play further back.

so would it affect my sound when im playing live in any way?

haha damn why always got ppl with different opinions on my questions one.

sub or anyone else with advice?
