Question for the engineers here

Can someone seriously recommend me a good PZM microphone? I mean to ask from your personal experience especially if you've compared it other PZMs. I've used many many mics but never had one such in my studio before.

Regards

Thanks you guys

Do you guys actually have one such in your studios/workplace so that I can drop by and audition? I just would need to hear it to decide.

I'd preferably go for one that's got a more natural sound than a hyped sound but I am intrigued how it would work in a bass drum like the Shure 91. I've never recorded kick drum like that (i.e flat on a pillow) cause I think lots of tone comes from the fron head. But if the Shure 91 does a good job capturing the actual sound of the drum I wouldn't mind investing in one.

ok sorry to butt in , but while PZMs are great and all...

the new standard in kick mic to me is the Audix D6. i used to go for the D112 plus condensor combo but the D6 just get the combined of a D112 plus condensor ....in one mic NO phase worries and easy to handle

just my 2 cents.

Dude, I always appreciate serious comments. Thanks. I was actually just considering a multipurpose PZM but since you brought up the D6, this is interesting.

I have a D112 and Beta52A and I've tried the Audio Technica ATM25. I've never tried an Audix D6 but I've heard of that mic. Do you have a sample audio of the D6?

Thanx again.

d6 is the mic which was 'nicknamed phrased : just throw it into the kickdrum/mike it up anyway you like it and it will still sound good'

i have one

... And for those of you with a budget, you may also want to check out the Earthwork's Microphone Kit for recording Drums. Simply amazing...
