Problems with Mic and Feedback

Hello. I'm encounting this problem and I have no idea how to solve it.

I plugged in my electric guitar directly into the laptop mic port, wanting to use it as a temp amp. So basically I would want a direct feedback from the mic into the speakers.

But the thing is. I can record what I'm playin with a software but not recieving direct feedback through my speakers.

Any idea what's wrong?

It cannot work like that. You can't plug your electric-guitar into the laptop mic input. The signal of the guitar needs to be amplified.

Sorry if I understand your question wrongly. Are you saying that you cannot hear the guitar sound from the computer while recording it? Although it gets recorded?

What software are you using?

Well I realised it's a common problem in laptops.. well at least it happens to mine and my friend's compact laptop.

hi kaye,

it could be a soundcard thing. if you want to hear it "live" you need to enable direct monitoring or something like that in the soundcard function on your laptop. many laptop sound cards do not have this function ...

most of the time you'd just open up a software say "audacity" and you can monitor it through the inputs of the software.

i used an asus motherboard with an inbuilt realtek audio soundcard that allowed me to monitor directly before. ... as in when you plug in the instrument it comes out through the speakers without me opening any software ... then again your guitar signal may need a preamp to run it through ... soundcards may not be able to do that to a guitar signal ... if i understand correctly ...
