Problem with my pedal

Hello softies, I hope you can help me with this. I've never seen this problem before in a pedal but....

I bought a BOSS ML-2 recently. And, when I stick the adaptor into it, the LED turns on whether I activate the pedal or not. I tried a battery with it, and the LED would be normal. The only thing is, now I have to disconnect the adaptor whenever I'm not playing because I'm afraid the LED will blow up :S

But can anybody tell me why is that when the adaptor is plugged in the LED will always be on?

i've encounter that problem b4. mayb its cuz the pedal uses 9V...but u using 18V adaptor?
im not really sure. but that was the problem i faced last time.

I'm using some adapter called NewStar, it's 9V. But I think my pedal needs a BOSS PSA adapter specifically. I hope no damage has been done by some way or other by that adapter i was using :S

Hi, i got the same prob too, but mine is on the MT-2. I used some third-party adaptor called Newstar too. Its one where you can choose the voltage, and the same prob happens.

And I agree, maybe you need to use a Boss adaptor. For me, i've been using 9V batteries since, cos like you, i am afraid the LED might blow up.

But the adaptor doesnt give probs on my other pedals like the Danelectro Fab Chorus and the Artec Wah. Maybe its just Boss pedals.

You have to becareful on those Newstar adaptors they actually work fine by my experience, mostly it's just that people don't set the voltages properly. The voltage selector knob needs to be adjusted precisely to the selected voltage. If I'm not wrong the knob has small detents to guide you into the correct position.

Check your polarity. For boss pedals (actually, virtually all guitar pedals), the polarity is reversed : center is negative. Wrong polarity may fry the ICs. Like what others have mentioned, also make sure the voltage is correct.

For the polarity mine is set at "-" because "+" doesn't work. Btw what are ICs? @_@ I hope mine aren't fried. They sound important :S

Oh and I set my voltage to 9V. Anyway I hope it doesnt damage the sound of the pedal. That's the thing I'm most concerned about.

Thanks for your replies everybody! I just got my adapter from Sweelee. But when I plug in the adapter the LED still turns on, but when I press the pedal again it'll turn off nicely.

Other than that it's working fine, and the LED doesn't turn on when I leave my adapter plugged into it. :)
