Premier Olympic Drumset

I get what u mean, most of the drum set in the jamming studios have this prob when i am adjusting the toms, btw, pst 5 is expensive man, go for the xs, much better value! :)

Will it be difficult for Basswood to sound similar to Maple with the heads I had bought and with a good tuning?

Pinstripe is a hydrolic head so not possible unless you tune the skin high and use more muffling... then again the drum wouldnt resonate the way you wish it to... yes you can get the sound but then again not the characteristics of the maple set.

Those kits in the studios are adjusted by many people and many times but mine's a brand new set! This is only my 3rd/4th time adjusting them since the set arrived.

As for the cymbals, I think I will wait for a while more to decide on which set to go for as now I am finding time to fit on my new heads plus I have to remove the mold on the tom (as mentioned in the pevious few page).

Thanks, but I still prefer using new cymbals. How's the sound quality like for the Pearl Target Series? If I were to compare with my Olympic kit, which one will sound better?

Maybe im bias but straight off the box the Target Series has better skins making it sound better then the olympic... i believe though if you mod both drums both will sound the same... same skins,etc... ohhh sorry i might be wrong on this you might need to check i believe that the Target has 1-2plys extra... someone confirm?

Are you saiding that I need to use a muffling device on the heads inorder not to have a dead sounding from the Pinstripes?

Tune high and use duct tape haha or the mordern moodgel if you like it... its just to prevent to overtones to getting to your head...

I think u got to tune higher, putting the o rings is just making it sound more muffled, the heads for the pearl target series are better heads, as pearl drum heads are 2 ply which is durable, and those heads do sing well :)

I really regretted for not getting the Pearl Target that time (as it's the display set) when I am purchasing my Olympic! Last month when I tuned one of my tom to the lowest pitch, the sound produced is not to my liking as there are lots of 'gongy' sound. Does it mean that cheap kits can't be tuned low?

Try to tune the drums yourself, ss only u urself knows whats the sound that u are looking for, and the pearl target is also made of basswood :)

You had set up a few Olympics before and I believe you have noticed that the throne included is kinda shaky as in the seat are not stable when lifted up and they produced some sounds when being seat on. Any DIY to encounter this?

IMO, the Target Series are not worth getting it as they are made of 6ply/6mm Basswood too and they cost $950! If both the Olympic and Target are using the same heads and tuned the same way, will they sound the same? (both have the same finishes - wrap)

Hehe i think edrummer caught my drift on this one... basically you can ask anyone to tune your set and pay anything from 20 - 300 but you will still nvr get what you really want from your set unless you do it yourself.

Darren the seat has a locking system as well... turn the knobs to tighten the seat. ..
I dont believe that the target and olympics have the same heads the factory is diff...

The knob (the knob on my throne is the shape of a drum key) is tighten but when I lift up the throne, the seat can easily be move. Try un-tighten your throne by a little bit and move the seat when it's lifted and you will know what I mean.

What I meant in the previous reply is that if the Olympic and Target are using the same heads eg. Emperor over Ambassador, will they sound the same? They have most or less the same specs - Made of 6ply/6mm Basswood and their finishes are warp.

Emperor are 2 ply drum heads, they are more durable, and because they are thicker, they would not be as bright as ambassador, but they do sound 70% the same :)
