Premier Olympic Drumset

My stock bass drum pedal is not so responsive for fast tempo, still figuring out the setting. If I am not wrong, Yamaha's pedals are made in Japan too right?

Also, I had just bought a normal size sleeping pillow which I intended to use it to muffle the bass drum. How do I ensure that the pillow stays in the middle of the bass drum when transporting it?

Thanks.

Hi pianist darren, i hope i would be able to help you, i have set up a few premier olympics before, the reason why the heads dont sound good is due to the fact that the heads are stock heads that are made by premier, they arent good enough to sound good, simply saying, they are just heads for ppl to hit to get a sound out, whether decent or not is another issue,

Another way which i observe after playing around with drums for the past yr is that, for cheap drums, u might need to muffle it abit, eg o rings or moongel, to have an ease of tuning, u would be surprised at how good it sounds after u put a set of o rings on your toms :) cheers :D

Hi edrummer, thanks for your reply. Just curious, your job must be something related to drums?

Since you had set up Premier Olympic drum before, will my drum sounds good or just a little bit better if I change my drumheads? Does the Premier Olympic drum have the ability to sounds good? Thanks for your info on the o rings too.

Hi pianistdarren, your premier olympic can sound good, u might call my fussy, but i feel that there is some diy which u can do with your snare, for example, u can purchase either an remo ambassador x or evans g1/g2 drum head, and then try to change the bottom head to an ambassador hazy, and change the snare wire, for budget, change it to a tama starclassic wire for about $20, if you would want smth great sounding, get a canopus snare wire, but it would cost $39, that was what i did to my mapex qr snare, and now it sounds more like a drum :)

Thanks edrummer for your DIY suggestions! As for the snare wire, is those made by Yamaha good and where can I get the Canopus?

Just to let you know, I am intending to change my toms head to the Clear Remo Pinstripe and the snare to the Coated Ambassador. Will these head sounds good on my drum? Also, do I need to change my toms bottom head?

Regrading about muffling the bass drum, I had a bought a normal size sleeping pillow and intend to put it in. Do I need to purchase some accessories to secure it or just leave it inside?

Thanks.

Hi pianist darren, what i would recommend you is to either go to swee lee or drum resources to get the pillows which allow you to muffle away the unwanted overtones, as for the snare wires, i understnad that puresound snare wires are good, but i cant find them in singapore, and canopus wires can be found http://www.musicgear.com.sg/contact-us/ those wires are great, it gives you a snappy tone for ur snare,
By the way, its great that u are changing ur tom heads to pinstripe, those heads can take a beating and it sound good, if it is possible, u can consider changing ur resonant tom heads to remo ambassador clear/coated, and for your snare head, coated ambassador is certainly the industry standard, but u can try ambassador x, i love ambassador x, they can take a harder beating than normal ambassador, cheers! :)

Thanks edrummer for your reply! Due to budget constraints, I think I will be changing my toms batter and resonant head to the Remo Clear Ambassador. Will it sounds good? Btw, what is the difference between Clear and Coated drumheads?

Also, what Evan drumheads can I use?

Thanks.

For evans, the snare, evans g1 or g2 is great, for toms, the evans g plus is great, or the ec 2, for the bass, buy the emad-1 is probably one of the best bass drum heads that iever heard, as for the difference between coated and clear, coated gives u a warmer sound, and u can play brushes with it, for clear, it gives u a punchy sound, good for playing rock etc, mostly , from what i observe, ppl tend to buy clear drum heads :)

Thanks edrummer for your reply! As for the cymbals pack, is the Sabian B8 Pro Performance Set good? Also, which Sabian Cymbals Pack are the most popular ones?

Other than the Sabian B8 Pro Performance Set, anyone can suggest a Zildjian Cymbals Pack that is about the same standard with the B8 Pro or the AA?

Thanks.

U could try search the classified section,or yamaha.they're the sole distributor of zildjian in spore i think.if they dont have it i doubt anyone else has.if you dont want the b8 pro,can try the sabian xs20.or u could try alchemy a.r.t. or istanbul agop xist, both from ezimusic.another option would be istanbul mehmet samatya pack from drum resources

=sunkjob

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I do aware that Yamaha is the sole distributor of Zildjian cymbals. I just wanted to know which Zildjian series is worth buying.

Thanks for your reply. I have a list of cymbals pack for consideration -
1. Sabian B8 Pro Performance Set
2. Sabian Xs20 Performance Set
3. Zildjian ZHT 4 Pro Pack

Also, I was told by the saleman at Yamaha a month ago that ZHT pack cost around $500+. Is that true?

Yeah a ZHT pro pack is around 500+.

ZHT rock pack around 490.

I recommend the pro pack over the rock pack. I am not quite satisfied with the rock pack because of the crash and ride are too overpowering. One hit on the ZHT rock crash and my ears feel very uncomfortable, the crash just CUTS through all other sound, Very crude and louud. Suitable for hard rock/ Metal?

ZHT rock ride another overpowering one which cuts through all other drums component.

ZHT rock hats are good though. Nvr really considered changing it.

Still, go try out the ZHT pro packs. Ask the yamaha service staff let you try out all the ride crash and hats to make sure you like everyone. They let me try out mind, but still got the wrong stuff ; P

Thanks for your reply! So now you are using the ZHT Rock Pack? Btw, may I know what metal is the ZHT made of?

Out of the 3 cymbals pack I had for consideration, which ones will you strongly encourage me to buy?

ZHT are sheet bronze.
I think its made of B12 bronze and with higher tin content.

I could'nt recommend any pack for you as i have not tried all 3 kinds of cymbal pack yet.
Xs20 and ZHT are more recommended by other drummers.

Thanks for your reply. Most likely I will go for the ZHT pro cymbals pack.

Lastly, which Paiste and Meinl cymbals pack can I add to my consideration?
Thanks.
