I'm the type who usually play guitar at night and I always use headphones for obvious reason. My multi effect pedal is able to amplify the sound and I just connect the headphone directly in. My single pedals can't do that, so can recommend any good small preamp to do that? Of course I can use my amp to do that too...but the sound suck.

uh, I'm not sure what you're looking for but a podxt is good for night headphones playing i guess.

i use the H&K tubeman tube preamp with speaker simulator, and it works great with headphones. in fact, when i play late at night i use my gigging rig and plug the headphones into the headphone output of my boss DD20 delay.
the H&K at $700+ new is pretty steep though.
i've also gotten great results running my single pedals into POD 2.0, POD XT live, or POD XTs set to a clean sound. they're not as warm sounding as a tube preamp but are very good in their own right. plus, you get lots of amp models to choose from.
you can get a used POD quite cheaply nowadays. its an affordable and very functional solution.
