practise amps and gig/jamming amps

hi guys , i really need some help. I am using an ax3000g multi effects thru a ibanez toneblaster 25 amp.

When i practise at some , i set the settings i really like the sound a lot. Ok heres the problem .. i went jamming today , brought my guitar my pedal and used their Marshall Stack.

i dunno why but when i use those "big amps" or stacks. The sound produced is VERY trebly. The sound dam sharp , makes ur ears dam pain lol..
Even when i turned down the treble knob to almost 1 ( was actually 6 on amp ) the treble was as if 10 on the amp ..

anyone can help me out ? I will be playing at a gig soon and really need help on this cause i dont wanna sound like crap on stage.

basically , why small practise amps are SO different from stacks ?

Maybe ther presence knob was maxed? Large amps usually have such knobs which affects this trebliness.

If you were to run straight into the amp? Gtr --> cable --> amp. Still as bright?


Btw, if you're doing a gig, and the gig has good PA, you could run your multi-efx into the PA, can't you?

It shouldn't be trebly at all. Bassier yes but trebly no. Perhaps your ears are not used to the full range of frequency provided by the bigger amps yet?

hmm , but cant be mah .. when my treble knob is 1 the treble really DAM dam high .. nothing close to my 25watts prac amp lol.

are u using single coils or humbuckers? pickups affect ur bassiness and treblyness too.
Marshall stacks are big yes but not hard to control, play ard with the eq.
If u really like bass in ur sound turn off the bright button that is with the clean channel, it makes a difference at least for me heh. But id rather nice and bright =]

yup , the bright helped a lot when i turned it off. but im not too sure what is 'gain' on clean channel lol .. im using humbuckers btw.

Do check your settings on your multi-fx. Most multi-fxs have inbuilt EQs with abnormally high thresholds for sliders.

but its like .. i set the eq on my multi efx at home already and my amp settings always the same. Its only when i play thru stacks the tone become dam high.
I tried 2 stacks , one epiphone ( tubed ) one marshall avt150. Both got same results dam sharp

since the speakers are much lower than the 4x12's you get a perceived warmer sound since the majority of the treble is concentrated in the center of the speaker cones. try turning your practice amp up to jamming levels and place it on the table or something, close to the height of the half stacks.

Yes, maybe the problem lies with the practise amp, since you've tried on 2 different 4×12" amp models and they both give you the same results... Is your practise amp too muddy/fat?

When using a multi fx you will need to tweak both the amps and your settings when you are using a different amp. I don't think you can leave ur settings untouched on the multi fx and expect to get the same sound as on your personal amp at home.

Mostly important make sure your multi fx is bypassed and you're getting a good clean sound and then, proceed to see how your patches now sound through the amp and tweak them accordingly. Gotta compensate because different amps/heads and cabinets will sound different.

the thing i noticed about multi efxes are that they have to be constantly tweaked when changing amps. beacuse the results that you get from one amp differs from the results from another. thats why multi efxes are a huge pain in the ass

yeah..super true.. i used to have multi effects.. i set the settings for my normal home practice amp, then when i use the same settings for the studio's amp, super schreeching noises.. need to keep tweaking, quite troublesome..

Headroom. One big reason.

One possibility is that your multieffects has consistently clipped at the treble end already when you are using your practice amp.

If you run with different amps, always be prepared to tweak the EQ live before/during performance.
