Power supply for pedals

Hey there fellow Softies,

im looking for power supply for all my pedals. Got a few boss pedals and 1 Suhr Riot.. Might expand some more so wondering whats a decent power supply unit i shld be looking out there is i want to power all of them..

Godlyke powerall or one spot will be good enough, ESP since you're not using that many pedals. If you really feel that you need a isolated psu, can try the t Rex fuel tank jr, cioks baby Mach, bbe supa charger etc

Just a word of caution. The extra expense in getting something like the Voodoo Labs PP2+ helps the fight against hum. If you're not getting an isolated PSU, you'll have to move around your pedals on your board to determine the configuration of least hum. Wah pedals hate power supplies if they're too close, and cheaper pedals pick up hum.

Additionally, if you're getting the big Boss twin pedals like a DD20, these draw a much higher current than ordinary pedals. I'd recommend keeping track of the total current draw of your pedals (and future pedals) and compare against the total current output of the various power supplies you've listed. That way, you can plan to expand your pedalboard without fear of under-powering your pedals (unlikely, but possible...my mate's 20-something pedals ran into that problem) by picking a power supply that fits your needs.

+1 to j. custom's answer.

you should plan as well what pedals you might have. 1spot has 9v all the way while cioks offer other current and voltage settings. voodoo labs pp2 has an extension socket...

peace

Interesting replies...never though power supplies can be a confusing topic for me lol! I'll need to look ard maybe check out the prices at Peninsula and bras basah later.. But roughly what type of prices and i looking at?

Switching power supplies like powerall/onespot, about $40-50 I think? The Biyang and generic no-brand ones are $25 last I checked.

Regular units with isolated/regulated outlets, about $130-150 for the smaller ones, and goes up from there along with more outlets/power as required.

Hey thats not too bad...i was expecting to be forking out alot. lol

Powerall and one spot are 31.50 and 20+, i remember Davis selling a display t Rex fuel tank jr for about 150 or less!

Get a isolated power supply, it will save you money in the long run, if you decide to upgrade hahaha!

do the 20+ 1spot have the daisy chain included here? i know 1 spot has quality issues so you have to check them and have them replaced if there are hums.

i heard the poweralls are noisy..

so with all the hoopla, i resorted to a dc10. :-p tymc had a discount a month ago, dunno if they still do.

TYMC 10% store-wide discount was their Year-End sale, i.e. December only. Prices are back to normal now.

Powerall/Onespots aren't inherently noisy, they just don't protect against noise from pedals and dirty mains power. The schizophrenic is great for noise issues because each outlet is isolated, unlike others where outlets are grouped. Only a measly 75mA each tho.

Went around Peninsula and finally decided to save myself some cash and get the Godlyke powerall. Going to OT here but got a funny story though. While i was buying my power unit th
here was a Ang moh women and her Chinese looking son. Think they buying some sound recording device.. Ang moh mother speaking good mandarin / singlish to salesman while Chinese looking son speaks with a very Ang moh accent... I'm very confused

oh really u know then? Small world.. man i was seriously confused looking at both of them lol!. Talk abt globalisation haha. To the lady's credit she speaks damn good mandarin!

Think you'd be happy with the Godlyke. I used the OneSpot since I got into the effects realm and they've been useful... Until your GAS starts to explode.

But just a word, I've gone through 3 OneSpots over the years. First one lasted the longest, prolly about 2 years. Next one lasted only 8-9 months and the third is still fine only because I switched to a PP2+ after abt a month using it. The 2 just died for no reason and an email to Visual Sound explained that it could be due to a surge that fried them but in turn protected the effects from getting fried :/

Since the Godlyke works similarly, I just wanted to give you a headsup.... and be sure to keep receipt if got warranty!

thanks for the heads up bro. Will keep that in mind. Was told by the shop the Godlyke has lifetime warranty as long i keep the box and receipt they will do a 1 to 1 swap. Sounds good to me :p

k i got a slight OCD. i get annoyed with messy cables, the patch cables are all nicely done an measured accept the daisy chain. anyone know of anyone or anyshop that can modified a regular 5 daisy chain into a nice fiting 3 daisy chain. currently the un-used plugs are looking damn ugly on my board. advice?
