Power Chords

Hi,
So basically,i play a lot of songs that require power chords.Example,3rd fret on both A and D string and 1st fret on E string. All along i've been playing power chords this way,1st(index finger) on the root note,3rd(ring finger) on the D string and SECOND/2nd finger on the A string. I've been playing like this all along until a fellow guitarist said it was wrong of me to use my second finger and i should use my fourth(pinky) finger and third finger only instead. Is he right? Am i not supposed to use the 2nd finger when it comes to power chords?

Thanks :D

power chords

Here are some tips for fingering.generally we should try to play with one finger per fret.we wanna avoid weird fingerings since its not natural for the fingers to do that.a power chord is basically the root note and the fifth played simultaneousy. It gives the chord a tonality that is neither major or minor since the third is ommitted.to give it more "power" u could add the lower 5th note on the 6th string-this applies if ur playing the power chord with root on the 5th string.

there's no right or wrong when it comes to fingering power chords since they're easy, just do what's comfortable to ya. personally i use the index ring and pinky way, sometimes i just use index and pinky if i'm playing 2 strings only. i find it more comfortable than stretching my middle finger 2 frets away though it's possible. one reason why people use index ring and pinky is because when we wanna do a full barre chord, our middle is used to fret the 3rd, a string below the pinky fretted one in the cases or F to A major and Bb to D minor.

but the middle finger way is also used to fret the 5th actually in cases of Bb to D major barre chords. again, no definite right or wrong! personal preference for power chords

if power chords are all u play in the song then it really doesnt matter. but if u play all kinds of notes ard the power chord then ur way might just prove to be more useful since u got ur pinky to stretch some more. my lead guitarist sometimes just uses his ring finger to just barre the A and D strings. as long as the chord sounds out its perfectly and technically fine :)

jus wondering why is it called power chords?
to diff ppl power means diff stuff, so why power chords are like that lol

usually i use my 1st an 3rd finger. which leaves my middle and pinky free for concurrent hammer-ons and other stuff...
