Portable Air-Con

Hi guys. Recently my house gotten some upgrading by HDB and I got a new extended room. I'm thinking of converting it into a studio where I can do some jamming as well as recordings. But this room do not have an Air-Con system and I don't have the budget to upgrade my current Split Air-Con system. Hence, I'm thinking of getting a portable Air-Con, but I do not have experience using them.

My main concern is noise level as I wish to do some vocal tracking in there. Anyone have any experience in using a portable air-con here? Can kindly share how roughly how loud is it? Maybe like roughly describe say...eg., as loud as a working washing machine, Oven, copier/fax, CPU, TV, DVD-Rom drive, etc. etc..

Thks alot~~!!

Just turn the aircon off before you hit record and turn it on when you finished. Any kind of aircon is too loud if you want to track vocals.

my brother has one in his room.

it is as loud as a portable power generator (those they use at the pasar malam). i was shocked to know that it was so noisy.

you will definitely not be able to record anything with that machine running in your room.

follow widdly's advice. turn off the thing everytime you're recording.

HUh??!! Really so loud??!!! it's not those window mounted kind you know. It's those that stands on the floor, have a hose at the back to blow out the hot air.

Coz I was told by some guys in another forum that it is not as loud as a working washing machine, half of it. But it is also not as soft as normal split air-con. Another said it's like floor-fan at Max. speed. They told me though noisy, but tolerable. But if it's really like those Pa Sah Ma Lam generator, then they is really loud and untolerable man!!

ok, it's been awhile since my brother turned it on (for that very same reason). maybe i exaggerated a bit.

but still, you'll have to turn it off when you start recording. his portable air-con is about the size of a standing dustbin. the brand is "EuropAce".
