Poll: what attracts

If the MIS local music entertainment magazine is not strictly for bands/individuals or certain genre/language or activity/gigs news only, singapore actually have a great number of stuff to be dug out or promoted.

70% - Local (Be it jazz group, classical orchestra, producers behind the scene etc)
10% - Foreign acts related to singapore (holding concert here, new album, insights etc)
20% - New local stuff and talents like pedal makers, luthiers

Rock On~

o.0 I thought its a poll about band stuff on magazines

It should have a good balance. But I believe this will change according to demand in time.Hopefully we'll be able to see a full local music mag.

i just want to see lots of photos of happening events so that i can fantasize that i am very happening.

60% - Local. Open genre. Don't have to stuck at a particular or two genres.
40% - Foreign, will be better for those uprising bands rather than those foreign bands that normally appear.

(:

Thanks for the great response guys. I've a NEW QUESTION!

As you know in the past 'LIME' only attracted a niche group of people, teenagers and musicians in particular. Thus, we can safely conclude that the rest of the public is actually the 'gap' between Singapore music and its people. Only when we can get these people to love what we've to offer then we can succeed in generating a greater awareness for our music scene.

Therefore, the question is what do you think should be in the content of a magazine to garner the attention of these people without being distracted from its original intention of?

70% local
30% foreign

see if you're not established enough, chances are people are probably gonna buy metal hammer or something than yours

just my 2 cents

I'll be the devil's advocate here...

Does the "Gap" of people you're trying to reach out to be even interested in local music news per se?

Using the more attractive international news to attract them may seem good but it's going to be difficult to outdo existing competition.

Assuming that the magazine now will consist of a balance of local and international music news, the local news will not attract this "gap" and the international news will probably be better sourced elsewhere.

My thoughts are that in order to reach out to the target (the gap and not the musicians themselves) u're looking at, a magazine of local and international news may be pretty challenging.

30 local. 70 foreign. Slowly adjust the ratio as our music scene gets bigger, and i second the idea of getting up and coming bands instead of established ones. There's little information on the up and coming ones. So it's a good area to target. And also about gear and where to get good deals and all. This will reach out to musicians as well as those who wanna start learning... Got some influences. Yeah.
