Poll: what attracts

cartel

Thanks for the great response guys. I've a NEW QUESTION!

As you know in the past 'LIME' only attracted a niche group of people, teenagers and musicians in particular. Thus, we can safely conclude that the rest of the public is actually the 'gap' between Singapore music and its people. Only when we can get these people to love what we've to offer then we can succeed in generating a greater awareness for our music scene.

Therefore, the question is what do you think should be in the content of a magazine to garner the attention of these people without being distracted from its original intention of?

Hi guys, I'm doing a research for a school project and it would be great if you guys could help out.

Qn: If there is a Made in Singapore local music entertainment magazine, would you guys prefer to read about foreign artistes or local talented music acts, or a mix of both (if so, please state the percentage, i.e. 25, 50, 75, 100)?

Thanks (:

more local to foreign since its MIS.

80% local
20% foreign ( adjust this % according to the magazine reception i guess )

I remembered subscribing to Bigo mag years back.
I'd like 3:7 local:foreign ratio.
I don't wanna get too saturated with local music news

I guess a healthy mix of local and foreign in a 3:7 ratio, like what xp1151 said, would be nice. The local music scene is only so big, so forcibly stuffing it with news that may not even attract would not appeal. Too much, and you bore the readers if what you write is not interesting enough to appeal.
At the same time, if you interpret foreign as anywhere outside Singapore, it is really large. So it is worth paying a little attention to them and getting the hottest news so that we won't be left out of what is going on out there.

I would be very interested to read stuff like interviews done with local bands. It's always fun to see what they think and have to say about music in Singapore.

if it's a local mag, then i would like to see local bands. if international bands are being shown, it should be relevant to our local context (like they just had a gig here or are perhaps playing one soon) and not just thrown in for the sake of selling the mag

Local 70%
Foreign 30%

It'd be nice to have a "your local band of the month's gear!". You know we are all about gear.

Seems like most of the public favours more for the local music scene or a mix. I gotta agree that if we're looking for foreign music news, we can always turn to a magazine that have a personal contact with the artists themselves. Is there anymore other votes?

Yeah, 30% local and 70% foreign will definitely keep the publishing company alive for a longer time. Think about it, our small country don't even produce much famous bands as compare to US or EU so 30% would be just enough to fill the pages of the magazine.

i'll personally prefer 100% local coverage. think about it: we can already get all the foreign coverage we want from existing magazines.

If the MIS local music entertainment magazine is not strictly for bands/individuals or certain genre/language or activity/gigs news only, singapore actually have a great number of stuff to be dug out or promoted.

70% - Local (Be it jazz group, classical orchestra, producers behind the scene etc)
10% - Foreign acts related to singapore (holding concert here, new album, insights etc)
20% - New local stuff and talents like pedal makers, luthiers

Rock On~
