hi can any one tell me wad a piezo does?and cld anyone recommend one and the rough cost of gettin it and installin it?

Piezo is a tech where a elec guitar sounds like an acoustic. Normally they have a togge switch to switch between magnetic & piezo. The piezo pups are in the saddles.

my guitar is a TOM bridge so how will it work?same principle?my guitar is a schecter omen-6 extreme...wad wld the cost b like?

hi kahuna,

Piezo works on pressure system if i'm not wrong. They response to the pressure over at the saddle instead of standard magnetic pick up that response to the magnetic field changes.

If you have to add your guitar with such function, you need more then just the piezo saddles. You'll also need the preamp, tweaking options like pots or switches.

Maestro are bringing in Graphtech products and i would strongly recomend you the Ghost Pickup System. Why? coz you'll get 2 products at the same time! Not only you will get the high quality piezo, you will also get the Graphtech String Saver Saddle. It is a material mixed with teflon and some other compound.Recommend for string bends, heavy strummers, low tuning and floating bridge system.People normally know it for its ability to reduce string breakage but it have more than that!It can enhance your tone and sustain to a fair great amount.Ask those who have installed a graphtech to believe it, not from my words :D

Recomendations are just suggestions, believing your ears are the answers :)

Vincent

Piezos on electrics are a waste of $ unless you intend it to be a live performance shortcut/convenience.

They sound nothing like a real acoustic.

kahuna, you better know what goes on to install a piezo system, its not as simple as it seems.

Graphtech has its pros and cons - I leave the threadstarter to google it up.

add piezo = add preamp = add equalization =/maybe add more knobs.

quite a hassle but doable if you want it bad enough.

Yeah, as a dealer in Graphtech products and having installed all sorts of Piezo acoustic systems on electric guitars, Shred is right, they will never sound like a real acoustic. However, a piezo pick up on an acoustic guitar will never sound like a Mic-ed up acoustic either.

A fairer comparison would be to compare a piezo pickup on an acoustic to a piezo pickup on an electric. I would say, they are very close. Talk is cheap though, and Paulo has very kindly provided a clip for us to showcase the 'authenticity' of the Graphtech Ghost system on his Pot electric guitar. Flat Eq and direct to mixer. Hear the results and decide for yourself.
