if you are going for Seymour Duncan, i can vouch for Pearly Gates for neck position.
Another for the PG.

thbe 59 is bright but can also be woofy at the same time.

I didnt like the 59, find it v bassy n muffle. I heard the SD Jazz is a bright pup

hmm you tried a Jazz personally? the 59 can be too bassy though in the neck. using one in my LP neck for a long time recently been thinking needa bit more defintion.

a Jazz you say.. hmmm

what do you think of the 59 in the neck?

get a mount for a single coil pickup, and stick 1 there, single coils are more responsive and brighter sounding than humbuckers

Well I can't really associate the les paul neck pickup sound to be bright sounding... but if clarity and definition is what you want then I think the SD Jazz fits perfectly. Tried the 59 but I swapped the Jazz back in.

I meant the DiMarzio Humbucker From Hell. You cld try the DiMarzio PAF or PAF Pro too.

i know that, son.

What I don't understand is your statement. "One hell" of a pickup means it's good or bad?

my views on the duncan pus:
if youre looking for clarity for clean or overdriven tone..the jazz would do fine.
the duncan distortion neck is another contender...it does the job well fitted on the neck BUT can also be fixed on the bridge coz its a hot pu..perfect for a duncan distortion set..
as for dimarzio,i believe the hum from hell is almost equal to SD Jazz EXCEPT for the price :)

hey ..what you mean u need a bright pu??u want bright sounding ..just use the bridge la bro..no offence.. OR
put a jb on the neck if your looking for "brightness".Offcourse it depends on what you have at the bridge..and the tone that ur looking for ..

last but not least u can split the pu or custom wiring with to get diff kinda tone...

May not exactly be your idea of bight and responsive, but have you thought about a humbucker sized p90 in the neck?

Why not an Evo neck?

The Evo bridge is really hot.... and I can't imagine how you will balance it with like a humbucker from Hell.. .although when I tried to balance a HFH with an X2N, the X2N was like 2 inches from the strings and the HFH about 2mm.
