Pick Bass Sound

how do bands like MCR and fallout boy get that distinctive twangy and bright pick sound on their bass? i've tried many basses, including P and Js and the all don't give that kinda sound... what do they do to get it?

get a weird hairdo, scar yourself, slit your wrists, get some tatoos, cry yourself to sleep and take some weed.

oh, and pluck all the strings whilst fretting one note only like a strumming motion. pretend the bass is actually a guitar. =D

I'm just kidding. seriously. ;)

For my amp, I don't have those bass, mid or treble. But, it contains high, mid, low. Treble is under high right? But, when I put mid, it more likely give me those bright sound than high.

Try this:

Use a P-bass (or use more of the neck pickup), use a pick and play it near the bridge. EQ away the irritating high brightness as required, either using onboard tone controls or outboard gear. Set your compressor to slightly higher compression than usual, or even add a little overdrive if necessary.

err... out of point but FYI bass, mid, treble is low, mid, high respectively. same thing with different names. hehe
