pedal humming when boosted. ? ?

Hi guys i just got a EHX Metal muff..

The pedal on its own with my noise gate and wah sounds perfectly fine even with top boost.

Fine till i turn on my Biyang OD8 ( with the TL072 chip. Not the regular JRC4558) to boost. Everytime i play a lick/song finish, there will be this sharp hum that goes on. The hum will be even sharper when top boost on my Metal muff is activated..

i realise the 'degree' of hum sharpness can be ' adjusted ' when i play around with the tone knob of the biyang OD8..

As on its own the biyang od8 makes a beautiful overdrive..

In other words both pedals work well seperately till i stack them.

My question is , is there any alternative to boost the MM with the Biyang without the humming :) ?

:D

generally when stacking distortion hum is inevitable, its just the intensity of the hum.
i suppose you could lower the distortion/gain level?

lower the gain, moving the rig around may also help.

Try walking around with the guitar, you might find a place with less RF noise.

when stacking pedal, we are adding gain to more gain, any inherent hum that cant be heard initially will be amplifed to many times higher and thus more obvious.

When adjusting the tone(aka eq) and the hum "sharpness" changes, thats because you are changing the frequency of the hum as well, thus the difference. The hum can be muffled when tone is reduce, thus giving the impression that the hum can be filtered out.

anyway, theres already a boost within the metal muff, stacking all this gain(with the od) together is killing off the dynamics and definition of the sound.

turn down the gain on the pedals and use a bigger amp, pump up the volume. Fierce sound can be found in those instead
