Which do you think is a better deal?
PDP MX series or Peace DNA.
there's one thing I don't like about PDP, the floor tom 14"x11". It's just seems kinda wierd for me.
And there's something i'm not too keen on the DNA is the colour scheme.
If not what else do you think is a good buy for a 6 piece for 2k?
2 rack toms, 2 floor toms.

There are pros and cons... peace uses a higher grade maple (i think) while pdp uses lower grade maple...

pdp has more colour schemes while peace color schemes not much to choose from...

With 2K, I'll get my Ludwigs. But you're looking for a 6 piece, PDP's are the way to go. Music Ensemble has them in their jamming studios. Freaking good kits. Love them to death. Like a much cheaper DW.

I really wonder how the usage of a higher grade maple (or any other wood, for that matter) really affects the sound?

Cos, I have heard both the Peace DNA and the Gretsch Catalina Maple...and I prefered the sound of the Catalina. In fact, the DNA sounded like 'thuds on a wooden door'... quite 'dead' to me. Some may like it, but I dun.

I would love to hear the PDP though, cos never had the chance to do so. Do PDPs really sound like DW, but only cheaper?

Just my little opinion ya...

thin shells is supposed to be good for resonance, as it doesn't keep the sound "closed".
woah... thats kinda scary.. i was actually rooting for the DNA.. I really have to try it out man. any idea where i can do so?

Dun be scared by my opinion ya... After all, I speak from my biased view point, which is based on the sound that I like and do not like.

You really have to hear for yourself. Here is one link that allows you to hear the Peace DNA drums:

Note that the bass drum is not represented well in this recording. The snare and toms are quite accurately represented, like what you would be hearing in a live situation.

Here is a more accurate recording of a Gretsch Catalina Maple 6-piece set (I say accurate because my cousin owns one set and the sound in live matches the recording quite well):

Actually, the DNA costs around $1.5K yes? For that price, there are quite alot of other sets from established brands that you can consider. At the end of the day, you must be able to live with the sound that your drums produce.

Just my two cents...hope it helps

eh if i'm not wrong
the PDP has increased price... 2k for a 5-piece.
the DNA is only 1.8k for my 6 piece configuration.
22"x18" bass
10"x8", 12"x9" rack toms.
14"x14", 16"x16" legged floor toms.
14"x5.5" snare.

a softie just got his 6 piece catalina with the gibraltar hardware at around 1.5k...

pretty good deal for a maple kit with extra floor tom and pretty good hardwares... the shell pack is only around 1.1 or 1.2k...

yeah his 16" floor tom was thrown in free if i remember correctly. pretty darn good deal i must say, with gibraltar hardware somemore.

yo everyone, i myself do sales for PDP maple, Gretsch and Peace drums.
seeing and listening for yourself is the best. Anyways, all these 3 brands offers maple sets. Choose wisely. We can basically listen to opinions but u have to try and decide yourself which is the best.
You all can text me if you all wanna try these sets ya..

cheers

wa myner bro..upgrading liao ah... 8)
personally,i prefer the peace DNA.these two kits are great but i prefer the DNA's finishing.

bottom line, trust your ears-as they always say

ahpek:great to see such generosity from a fellow drummer, something that most drum dealers/shops will not provide.im sure many individuals will benefit from experiencing the kits live rather then being influenced by others into decision making.

hi churnz, no prob man.. i'll try my best to help out if can. it's better to try out and see & listen for yourself.

Ok, basically, this the basic specs abt these 3 maple kit:

Gretsch Catalina - Offers 3 lacquer finishes. shell - 6-ply maple.

PDP - the MX(matte finish) and CX(plastic-covering/finishply) are selling at the same price. MX offers 4 finishes, CX has 6 colours/finishes to choose from.
For the LX, it cost about $300 more for the lacquer finish and it offers 8 colours/finishes. Shell - 8-ply american-maple.

Peace DNA - DNA offers 46 lacquer finishes and 23 plastic-covers/finishply with optional chrome or black hardwares on drums. shell - 9-microply american maple.
