Patch cables.

hey guys,

I'm thinking of building a small pedalboard soon, and i guess i'll need patch cables in that case.
Any recommendations out there on good quality ones? I hear that poorly made ones sap the tone out of your pedals?

From fellow softie carboxymoron, "I recommend going to TYMC at Excelsior/Peninsula. Lifetime warranty and you can get custom lengths. The standard one they sell is 15cm Canare GS4 cable with flat right-angled heads for $5. Can get other cables or Neutrik heads if you want as well, but the flat ones really save space."

Sounds good. Any other input? Many thanks in advance! :)

Lava mini ELC. Expensive but a huge step up from Canare GS4. The solderless plugs are just as space saving as the flatheads. Look for fehlupkid if you're interested in buying a set.

I guess good things are worth paying for!
Did a search on cables earlier and i didnt get much results. Just did another earlier on 'lava', wow lots of threads that were started.
Guess I just have to slowly track back and look into all those threads to have a more informed choice.

But meanwhile, if anyone wants to have some input, go ahead and post the cable brand and price.
Am sure that those in my shoes will appreciate that, if they're too lazy to track back. :)

both suggestions from dudelove and carboxymoron are good.

it just depends on your budget and your ears i guess.
if your budget is low and you cant tell the diff between different qualities of cables the canare would suit you better.

if you have a high/higher budget u can go for the lavas. everyone seems to think they're great anw haha.

Anyone can tell the difference between good quality cables and lower quality ones. But it all boils down to the overall length of cable, the amount of true bypass effects in the chain, the presence of buffers. If I were to take 10 true bypass pedals, connect them with Canare GS4s, and 2 10ft Canare GS4s for the cables to amp and to guitar, and record it. Do the exact thing with the Lava Mini ELC. The difference is vast. Anyone can hear the difference. I know because I've tried it before.

If you're gonna just 4 pedals, maybe all Boss pedals which are buffered, then the Canare's will do just fine.

sorry, let me rephrase that. i didnt mean that ppl cant tell the diff, more like if they care. the diff will be there and they can hear it but if the person isnt affected by the signal loss/noise/whatever it wouldnt justify paying alot more for the lavas.

thats what i meant. guess it didnt come out right the 1st time..heh

yeah the lavas seem to be recommended alot on this forum.

the lava mini elc looks quite affordable, 3bucks per foot. its the plugs that kill. ;O

Lava mini ELC.

I have LAVA patch cables as well as a 2m version for a straight guitar-amp application. verdict: recommended
