Overdrive thru DI to speakers

Hello people, sorry if this is a noob question but its really bugging my mind and giving me stress :D

Anyway, how does it sound like if i were to switch on my overdrive pedal through DI into speakers? Will it sound the same as it is thru an amp? If not, what can i do to make it sound the same as it is thru an amp?

Thanks :D

Hi Pink Floyd fan:)

Plugging ur guitar in an OD and going direct into either a Hi Fi, PA, Keyboard, Bass or Acoustic Guitar Amp will sounds very raspy as in you'll get that Beatles "Revolution" kinda fuzzy sound. Also check out te original guitar solo to the Commodores "I'm Easy" that's also the sound of the guitar thru a fuzz direct to the Mixing board.

If you must perhaps you'd like to consider getting some form of an amp simulator device like Sansamp or the Line6 POD Xt.

Hope this helps clear things up for you.

pinkfloydrose, do you have the opportunity to compare DI and mic/amp?

why do you have this question in the frist place? are you in a situation where you are looking for a solution?

i am trying to find out more background information so that fellow SOFTies can share their experience.

the solution for dealing with half assed soundmen who cant mic an amp or pull a decent guitar sound to save their lives.

take a preamp out off the amp via the effects loop send, even a metalzone plugged direct into it sounds halfway decent.

thanks for the recommendation unsane :D

Mr Soft, actually i never really tried playing guitar thru DI before. Just that im really worried because im going to have a performance that requires me to play thru DI instead of a normal amp for the first time. Yeah so thats the cause of my worry. Oh yah im also worried because i'll be stacking up 2 overdrive pedals in one go. So yeah i'm trying to look for a solution here if the sound turns out bad on that day :D

Get a speaker sim. Straight through DI usually sounds bad(fuzzy) unless you have those with speaker sims built in like the ones from Tech21 or Behringer.

Like someone recommended, if you get a multi-fx, they'll prob have a speaker sim as well.

Acty I tried once going direct into the mixing board (with a DI) and you have to really tweak the EQ to get a fairly fat sound without too much fuzz. Basically, I cut the trebles and boosted the low-mids and bass

Hi pinkfloydrose, basically, if your soundman don't do their job well on the mixer, what u'll be getting is a super thin sound. Its a big difference of sounds coming from guitar amps and PA system speakers. The best way to remedy it is to get an amp simulator, Behringer GDI-21, SANSAMP GT-2 or Tri-AC, Moen Buffalo, or get a multi efx. Even through these devices, the sound diff will be still great. But it helps.
