Cheap? How cheap is cheap. Shud state ur budget here.. Also what sort of Od you looking for.. High gain? A low - mid gain one to use as a boost?

Hmm, if you're still looking to find out what overdrives and distortions are at the entry level, you should look for something cheap like the boss or danelectro ones. I dun recommend any other entry level pedals until you find the sound you're specifically looking for.

I was also thinking of the digitech bad monkey(tube overdrive) i heard some people saying that they are willinging to let theirs of at ard $70. Not sure if thats good.

There was recent talk about the digitech hardwire OD being current bang for the buck ...give it a test drive ;)

hmm, i've never liked digitech :P but i've heard of the hardwired ones being their best ones. You could probably give it a shot :)

Just a suggestion,

Why don't you try to listen to several bands and listen closely to their dirt sound. Once you picked up the guitar dirt that your aiming for try to check their gear and research what alternative low cost pedal would be able to give you the same sound.

You can also search for reviews and youtube videos for the soundclips of a particular pedal so you can zero-in on one. Remember to test the pedal first because it will definitely react different with your equipment especially the body wood of your guitar and amp type.

just my two cents...

Should save up more IMO, but if you really cant just get the bad monkey ( Digitech.

If you can save up more go for the ibanez ts-9 or even a barber Direct Drive.

Another vote for the Bad Monkey. It should boost your amp's gain by quite a bit. I happen to think it gives boutique pedals a run for the money.
