Overdrive Mayhem and Decisions!

If you are into a TS-type od why not check out the CMATMODS Tubeslammer? Sorry no experience with it but I really wanted one. There's a demo at their webby. But of course the tone will still very much depend on the guitar. Hee just my 2 cents :)

I've tried one before.

Its capable of very very compressed, liquid tones. Lots of gain. You can go legato crazy.

ah well, thanks guys, much appreciated,
think im leaning towards the analogman ts808, bbpreamp and OCD, but i wanna try the hotcake for the low low gain. hmmmmm

Tried an OCD... v3. I thought it was horribly overrated. Dark & muddy unless you switch it to that brighter mode and then nearly max out the tone control.

Funny, I had that impression the first time I owned it too...

but when I bought it again, I found that it's a v useful pedal. I don't use it for high gain territory, but use it almost as a clean preamp or amp modeller of sorts:

volume up (to taste)
drive on 0-1
tone (to taste)

the HP/LP switch then gives u the option of several classic amp types:
HP - cranked vox (clean to slight breakup), a lil marshally-clean to my ears too.
LP - cranked fender (clean to slight breakup)

Oh yes, these settings r for my strat w low output pups. Allows me to attain slight breakup if I dig in..fat fat tones, I like =)

When I do use it for higher gain (rarely):
Don't really like the drive near max, but tend to like the drive at 1 o' clock or so with the vol a lil higher. Gives me the classic rock type of sound I'm lookin for. There seems to be a metallic tinge to the sound.

I compensate for bassiness(sometimes there's too much of it) by raising the Tone knob. Not an extreme amt of mud on this guy tho, somehow it's better this time...

Ah!

Now that's something for discussion...

Pedals that are labelled as "high gain" can sometimes do the low gain thing to a T.

I found out by using the NOC3 Fuzz, which can be a ridiculously high gain fuzz face, I actually achieved the nicest sounding tweed-like break up yet - in my experience that is.

Nothing like the real amp I'm sure but a fantastic emulation.

Rather interesting.

yea, I recall fenderben also uses his Menatone KOTB as a preamp for his rig. I'm using the OCD as my "clean to low gain" tone...but when I switch to distortion, I leave it out. I combine the OCD and the distortion pedal(I'm switching between a few for now) for my lead tone. I don't really have any mayhem setting tho...so sorry Pedal-itis bro if this aint really relevant! :P
