Overdrive Help

Hey, im looking for something that can act as a nice transparent bluesy overdrive that can clean up on its own, and that can also be used for mild rock tones and also as a booster to make my metal muff thicker and more crunchy. Any recommendations?

i dont really recall tubescreamers having any clean sounds. Even at low gain they are quite muffled

I don't think the tubescreamer is transparent

sd-1 maybe. But how well it stack with metal muff, not too sure, try out

deathism: so true. the ocd is my first choice. but until i get the money, i need some light od to jam with. plus, im also looking to get a few other things too.

i dont think you can expect so much from a low end pedal. if you just need something to jam with for the time being how bout just get a danelectro? that way you wouldnt waste money on something you just gonna push aside when you get a ocd.

The LTD is amazing.. I have one.. but *not for sale*

I use it as a clean boost / mild OD.. Sweet harmonics.. cleans up really well.

Tubescreamers are hardly anywhere near the word transparent. They also don't clean up well.


Heck the budget lah, its all about the tone. My vote for transparent:

1) Blackstone MOSFET overdrive
2) Subdecay Liquid Sunshine

i get good results using the following mild drive units to boost my Metal Muff:

*Ibanez TS7
*Guyatone OD-2
*BOSS OD3

Tubescreamers are hardly anywhere near the word transparent. They also don't clean up well.

The LTD is much more transparent than the other tubescreamer clones. It has the mid hump, which can be more or less adjusted based on your pickups, using the trimpots at the back.

Besides, when its first in the chain, it cleans up really well.

i've tried many tubescreamer clones & they could have been better tone & sweep-wise. i find the units which offer their own interpretation of a mild drive do better than the clones per se. eg: Guyatone OD-2
