Ovation guitars

Hmm, i might need brighter guitar for some finger style ala tommy or atkins..
I ll just test both out and pick up one which i prefer..

But i still felt the urge to buy the ovation.. probably kiasu-ism since it was discounted for about 40%....

Price was Rm942 (S$428) .. But i m still keeping my options open.. probably gonna try the farida guitars and see wats they hype about..

Dun be so quick 2 decide, cedar tops, esp. solid ones can be bright too, sometimes excessively so. U can try Fina too, they have a model priced at SGD$450 with B-Band pickup and solid cedar top, wonderfully bright sound and good resonance.

3 years?..no go bro...it can last up to 10-15 years..if u take care of it..it might be a vintage someday dude..i have an ibanez acoustic which is 10+ years man..and for spruce..the sound and tone keeps getting better as it ages..as the wood matures

.cedar is loud and tone is superb...its up there at its best.....it gives u a warmth feeling...wood and sound has already matured..
anyways..if u have the time..search tru the net and learn more about tone woods...spruces, cedars...luthiers sites especially...

no i'm not quick to decide that solid spruce top is brighter than cedar...cos i've already tried both..currently i have a classical guitar with solid spruce top, solid rosewood side and back...its getting brighter everyday..u must play it constantly to make it open-up..and wat do u get?..ever changing sound, tones + better resonance..

not saying spruce better than cedar or cedar better than spruce..its personal preference, taste..

Hmmmm......yeah ur right. But i do have a solid plywood classical that sounds as good as my solid spruce 8) . Bad spruce or good plywood? Haha u decide.

Thanx alot guys... i might be coming down singapore next saturday to celeb xmas with my gf in JB... might come over if i have the time to get a feel of the guitar

Which shops offers a cheaper price? Luthers or Davis?

Sorry dude, i only come for half a day.. i cant selfishly hog all the time for my own guitar viewing.. coz i dun wanna bores my gf... i have to bring her shopping too since its almost xmas time..

So i only wants to make a trip and i dun really know the places in singapore too well... Tht is if i have decided on a guitar model and is able to come..

The shops are side by side, so you can shuttle to and fro easily.

Unless you have a specific model in mind, we can't really help you out.... e.g. modal X is $a @ Davis but $b @ Luther.

Hmm... shred actually i do have some specific models in my mind now.

Saw the tak in luthers [EG-361SC] selling for $S528 , was wondering how much is it selling in davis..

I m also interested with the Ibanez AW 15SCE which is selling for $S499.. cool spec for tht price...

lol.. i didnt know they were just next to each other... i ll be going to JB next sat.. see if my gf's passport is available by then...

I have this ibanez... Really really nice tone is you use a thick gauge but not semi electric:(

Hmmm...
Go down and play ba.... :D

Acoustics have to speak to you, not the price, really.

Of course, if your focus is the price... then... erm....

Go down to pennisular, there is Maestro guitars, Davis, G77 acoustics and luther, all side by side.... take your pick! :D

Then you can drop by Sinamex and City Music, they are side by side (sort of) but in a different building. City Music has ovation guitars and applause (some cheaper ovation wannabe), while Sinamex has Taylor guitars.

Also, drop by Plaza Singapura shopping centre for Yamaha Music Plaza. Some yamaha acoustics do sound nice...

I think it is important you know what you need, like do you need a cutaway? Pre amp system, how good do you want it to be? Thin neck?

wow.. thanx for the location guide... yeah.. i do agree that price doesnt speaks for a guitar.. especially acoustics... but i still have to constraint my self to avoid overspending.. haha

But rite now.. i felt very connected to a brandless guitar namely Martinez bowl back... which leads me to endlessly trying all sort of ovations... maybe the demo guitar in City/CK music (KL) isnt well set up.. leads to very bad tone...

The martinez sounds good to me.. despite being a china made and ciplak brand... According to the salesman.. its a solid top... or so he says...

there's a way to check if its solid top..
the grains on the body should run thru the edge of the sound hole..
and if possible use a small mirror to check grains underneath the board..shd be the same with top..
a good solid top...or tonewoods they call it..the grains shd b very close to each other..the tighter and straight the better..usually damn bloody expensive grade AAA
those cheaper solid tops usually grade A..there are more info than this actually...
so now u know abit why there r cheap n expensive solid tops

neck normally made of nato (honduras mahagony some peeps call it)..its cheaper but quite strong..yamaha uses them alot..some uses cedar (distinct smell) n other strong woods..

back n sides usually laminated..rosewood, koa (beautiful), mahagony, bubinga...

theres alot more to it than u know..don't want to bore u with the details..
if the top sings to u like a Bell..resonance..tiiiinnnnggg..the longer it sustain..the better..
the longer the ting-a-ling..the higher the ka-ching..if u know wat i mean..haha

Thanx street jazz... i m aware of it that the wood and especially worksmanship contributes alot to the cost..

haha.. yeah... i do agree that if i want more ting-a-ling.. i have to have a kachiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingggg!!!! but i cant break my bank... i already have 3 guitar in my room.. my dead is gonna slaughter me if i bring one more home while breaking my bank... hahaha...

hmm.. i tested the martinez again... it sounds sweet.. the hollowy steel sound... abit like an electric.. but with added "boom" in it ...
