fretless: that RG- which year was it from?
one more thing- no Fender bass in your collection, why not?
guitar_phreak: that's my re-issue TS9, i would've used my TS808 for that photo shoot but it's stashed away somewhere... the guitar is my RG560, 13yrs old this November 8)
cherub: yeah the H1 strat is the latest addition to my arsenal. slightly >1mth old. i was deciding between the Am Series strat & this one, finally decided on the H1. was a tough decision... another strat coming soon... end of this month maybe?

I got the RG in around '97. So I reckon it's made sometime around '96/97 or so. Anyway, I refinished that guitar, so it's not a stock model. It was maroon red with flame "maple top", which I found to be a clever veneer job by Ibanez to make ppl think it's a 1/4" cap.
Would like to have a Deluxe 5 Jazz, but would also like a whole bunch of other stuff too!
If only I had the dough!

I notice that there are too mini toggle switches on ur RG550, I assume u modded it? Function?
Is the Dimebag Model a fretless when u bought it or you modded it as well?
Howz the tone differ from a guitar that has frets?
I got a Ibanez that I'm not really playing too much, thinking of making it a fretless, hope u can give some comments

Subversion: Nice Mini Stack! That RG's like a son too you eh? Just entered it's Teenage years! :lol: Nice Strat too. Have you considered the MIJs strats? Quite hard to find in Singapore though.

The switches are for coil split for the neck/bridge humbuckers and piezo. I installed some buzzers I bought from Sim Lim Tower into the trem and it works moderately well.
The Washburn was originally fretted
Fretless has less sustain and is more mellow. Has a slight "mwah" as with fretless bass, as long as you use roundwound strings. IMO fretless guitar is much more tricky than fretless bass, cos with the shorter scale length, you have less margin for error in terms of intonation.Dawn It's a DIY job
I have lost count how many times I have refinished that guitar just for the fun of it.

fretless: many off-the-shelf Ibanez guitars have veneer laminates to accomodate cosmetic tops. the upper end Prestige/ J Customs sport solid tops as reflected by the cost + the depth of the body. he he i'm not a keen transparent finish player like you, i prefer solid colours. but lately i'm kinda into very light/ thin finish. i can hear more of my pickups in such guitars, my H1 strat is a good example.
i'm itching for a Jazz bass currently...
Dawn: this RG 560 is a sentimental one, my mum financed a good 50% of it way back then. i have managed to pay her off along the way... it's one of the better RGs out there in terms of tone/ sustain. although it's basswood, it's much more massive than my 7-string RG. it doesn't work well with high output pickups. there used to be a Dimarzio tone zone in the bridge but it lasted only 3mths there, made way for a PAF, that yellow unit you see in the pic...
i can't find a Jap strat that i like, it's >$1K, about the same price as the H1 so i went with the latter. if the upcoming Swee Lee shipment has none that i fancy, i'm going for the pink paisley/ blue flower MIJ which Luther will help me acquire.

That means u pretty much can't do bends on ur fretless guitar rite? I know there are many kinds of strings, flatwound, half round, round etc etc etc......can I actually use any kind of strings w/a fretless?

Bends are kinda redundant, considering u get the same effect from slides. Basically u can use any kinda string on fretted or fretless, it's just a matter of what kind of sound you want to get. Flatwounds give more of a "thud" sound. Think pizzicato on a violin or cello. Roundwounds are more growly, brighter, and have more sustain. Halfrounds are in between.
