Brand is for the rich (i'm not talking about tone!)

I don't really believe that more brand/more expensive = better sound. i think if u are pro, it can fill up to 70% of cone of perfection. but of course to reach that last 30%, u just gotta pump in more money, to get the cleanest patch cables, the bigger cabs, the most expensive pick, etc to get the perfect sound(which then again it's subjective). so it's up to you how far you wanna go.

anyway there was this once when i saw a guy playing a sunburst tele which was branded 'fender' on the headstock. and i was thinking to myself that it's got a damn nice tone(i didn't have a tele then). then when i went up to the guy to ask him what guitar he was using, he told me it was a aria tele, but he changed the neck to a fender neck.

from then on i trust my ears more than i trust the brand.

Re:

lets be fair to Gibson... although its true i believe around year 2000 - 2003 they had some serious quality issues, they still produce quality guitars.

i think its just that when you pay more, you'll expect more and you'll scrutinize the workmanship more. If you apply the same amount of scrutinizing to the japanese brands i believe you'll find some less then perfect workmanship as well...also jap electronics dont match up to their american counterparts. im sure you'll agree..otherwise why do Edwards put SDs in their guitars?

having said that, i think the jap brands are definately more value for money. what you pay is what you get. quality is directly proportionate to the price tag.

If quality was directly proportional to the price tag, then there would be no such thing as getting ripped off :p
What's wrong with SDs anyway?

Re:

theres nothing wrong with SDs...i was just pointing out that they are putting american-made pickups in their guitars. just to make a point that the japs have not caught up with the americans in this area.
