don't limit yourself when you're writing songs.this is the only way to allow your creative juices to flow 
Just do what you feel is right , if you suddenly think of a catchy lyric then write it down
don't try so hard to come up with a melody first
and someone told me this , when writing lyrics you have to SHOW, don't TELL

usually lyrics comes before melody...
When melody comes before lyrics, you have to be powerful in your language before you can put the melody into words....
