Hi,
just some questions that i hope fellow softies can help.

1. I'm looking for low tension flat wounds, I'm currently using ken smiths (43-103) and it's bowing my neck, which is also tighten to the max already. Can anyone recommend me some low tension flats and hopefully advise me where can i buy them?

2. I'm looking for a practise amp with better low ends. my current amp can't really bring out the lows of my basses which make them sound less fuller. i might be getting the hartke A35, which hopefully during the yr end sale will cost $100+. anymore budget amps that can handle the lows well?

I also wonder which practise bass amp can bring out the low but can't find any..in the end, settle for Peavey TNT130.

Can't help on the strings part, but I think that the speaker size also matters in bringing out the lows. A second hand Peavey (think I saw one today in Buy/Sell) may work well too!

Haha, I'm actually using the peavey microbass.

I just can't get the punchiness from my basses with tht amp but it might b the case tht I've been exposed to gd amps and think tht mine suck :D

For fat lows, there's really nothing but a big speaker cab. No way around it, all the world's circuitry wizardry isn't going to move that much air if it's a tiny (by bass standards) 8" speaker. I wasn't satisfied till I got a 15".

For punch it's subjective, I feel it's up to the amp head. My current dream GAS would be one of the Genz Benz shuttles.

Had a very sweet opportunity to gig through an Aguilar stack once. Not sure if it was a 8x10 or 4x12, but blows away any of the more common Hartke cabs/stacks. Been irreversibly spoilt ever since. ;)

Oops. I know you're looking for budget stuff. Sorry got carried away. :p

well, i don't wanna spend too much for something i just wanna practise with, so i dnt need all that volume.

yah, i understand what you mean by those really awesome amps. i played a genz benz (made my bass sound like godzilla is on it's way), a markbass (1 of my bass seems to be made for this amp, the tone's awesome) and an eden (this amp makes any bass sounds gd)

You can try Sadowsky Flatswound strings? You can get them at TYMC in peninsula. Try lower gauges. That should help on tension. I might be wrong but no harm trying.

well, bass strings are kind of expensive to be trying and flats makes them more expensive, so i'm kind of finding out more info to reduce the trying :)

A great set of low tension flats (pretty darn costly though) are Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flats.

Cherns on soft, who runs Red Dot Music, sells them.

ok, my search is over.

i tried d'addario chromes aft reading some survey results online and found that their light gauge is ard the 2nd lightest in tension in the market. True enough, aft putting them on, my neck became dead straight, it was bowing upwards previously.

for the amp, i bought a ampeg ba-108, This small amp really packs a punch and have a very smooth rounded tone

redname: Can I ask where did u get your ampeg bass amp from?

There are only 4 places in Singapore for ampeg.

combos: music ark and guitar workshop

amp heads and cabinets: davis and the authorised dealer (sorry you might wanna jus do a google search on the dealer)
