OM: You And Me And Everyone We Know

Here's something simple and light-hearted which I just did, to sorta round off 2006, which was truly a blast in many ways.

The track's has a nostalgic sitcom feel to it, and the tunes are probably very familiar and nothing unusual. It's a quick, repetitive 4-chord job, done in about 3 hours, so there's certainly more that can be done with the arrangement and notes, but I think the idea's there...

Have a listen and tell me what you think...

I like this song. Lots of good things and the steady playing doesn't hurt.

The down side is that I wished that the tone had more bite/kill in it. The hammer-ons and pull-offs should also have come on a lot sooner. Coming on a minute or so earlier would hold your audience for a longer period.

The melody is good. But it runs along the same lines for too long before something different happens. Perhaps a bridge that changes for each chorus/verse will do the trick.

The other thing I 'dislike' (wasn't necessary) is the Satriani-like runs, but I guess that's ok for a one-off but I'd stay away from such stuff for other songs. I'm sure you're good enough to do your own thing.

It's really nice. One of the better stuff here at Soft.

Cheers

Hi RoRK,

Thanks for listening in. I must say your observations are pretty spot on as mine, especially the Satriani-like runs. I'm conscious of the need to let go of it as far as improvising goes. I'm not really his fan, and God knows how that creeped in.

The solo chord prog could also have included more chord changes and that would have made the song more interesting too, I guess. But I basically ripped the entire backing track from the Korg.

I deliberately chose a mild warm tone because of the nostalgic way the composition evolved...so in that sense I have to disagree with the 'bite/kill' that you mentioned. Guess it's down to an individual's interpretation of the whole thing!

hey man...nice mellow tone u have they and nice melodic instumental too...was wondering whats the guitar used, pickups and amp :)

HI amptones,

I used the Gibson Les Paul Studio on this - stock Alnico magnets, guitar signal then goes through the GT-8 and straight to the PB17 soundcard.

:)

Zone,

I don't know about the movie, but I simply took the title as an identifier for the track. I initially called it 'Me and You And Everyone' - then discovered the movie you were talking about, and added the 'you know' because it sounded much better. It's a bit of a coincidence because I didn't even know the movie existed!

very tasty playing killinghall!! on the contrary i digged the satriani-esque runs, felt that it gave the song a different direction as opposed to the melody hook. Gotta love it!

I'm glad you liked it, Slowish. It's not perfect and more can be done on the arrangement.

I am not so sure about the Satch runs because it's something stuck on me and I really want to let it go.

if i could alter this backing........ during the verse, to lock-in the bass, i'd go with a more Kenny Aronoff (drums for John Cougar Mellencamp) approach with snare flams n toms inserted in the prog, very sparingly n tasty, which is so Kenny.

during the chorus hook, it would be to 'open hi-hats' for a more rockish 4/4 drive, and switch the bass to 8th note thumping lines to suit the flow. this bass tone gets 'sunken' on high notes. should track live bass bro.

oh ya, the guitars rocked!

"Bass gets sunken on the high notes"

Bloody spot on observation, Paulo!

That took away a bit of the joy of jamming to the track. It's felt like the bassist took time off here and there for a smoke...lol.

:?

But then again, that's what preset patches on sequencers do to you sometimes!
