OM: Whole lotta etude

Hey Vaiyen... saw your take on an Etude, just had to listen in. :)

First thing man, you gotta lower your recording/input level! Its too high, there's clipping.

Also, note you are playing an Etude, or a study. Its a meant to be an exercise, and for such a piece, you are to play it with the utmost accuracy. I would advise you to lay off some speed. ;) Clarity and control is a focus on this piece, if its meant to be played at such a speed. Note your dynamics, because when you play your double stops, the thicker strings are much louder than the thinner ones. Of course, you may cheat by lowering you bass and/or getting a compressor. ;)

about dynamics, I find that it's really hard to control your pick strength when you're trying to blaze. Do you have that problem Dan?

maybe I should just play this at the intended speed lol...

the beginning lick is nicely done!!..
the string switching on the other parts are quite difficult to execute (especially the picking).. like shredcow said, maybe lay off the speed a little and practise at a slower tempo so that every note is precisely clean, then slowly increase the speed. with some practise, ull be blazing this in no time!

keep it up man

Ah... IMO there are 2 ways to shred.

1 is to just tense up and shred. 2 is to lay back, economy of movement (NOT economy picking), is the key here.

If you use 1, then well, you can go really fast but you lose dynamics. Using 2 is the best but you wouldn't get the agressive pick attack of 1.

Now how to do 2? Play on clean and try to shred as quietly as you can... relax and do it... :) Have fun!

2 is what I do too....I know enough of the perils of tensing up from various sources and personal experience. I experienced elbow pain before I corrected my picking style. Dun wanna end up crippled!

Ok I'll try some dynamics tonight!

still going strong man! The thing is I play my backup guitar mostly nowadays, and just leave my V in the bag. You cant wait to dismantle the floyd issit, haha!
