I think it is a good try. Definite an improvement from your previous ones. I can see those scores helped you! My opinion is that at this stage, it is OK not to be too "original" - we learn by emulating what we hear and read from scores. My 2 cents:

1. Piano intro very Elfmanish. OK as intro.
2. Good try in trying to get different melodic themes to be played by different instruments. However, becareful when too many themes comes in together as one. Sometimes, it can create messiness.
3. Try to avoid block chords when writing string parts, particularly triads. I can't hear very clearly (beause there was quite a bit of noise from other instruments), but that may have happened at one point. But I may be wrong - it may be violins at the lower registers together with higher registers of cello thereby creating the "block chord" effect. If you really are going to do it, sequence one part at a time. That means, sequence the first violins, then the second violins, then the violas etc. When you do this, each section will not sound like they are playing on the same second - this will create realism.
4. Interesting in adding delay to the flute. Because flute is part of the whole (ie the orchestra), it should be in the same hall with the same effect. If you want the delay effect, may I suggest using the pan flute? But this is minor - depends on personal preference.

I think you did well. Just one more thing - build the theme on a melody line instead of chord progressions. Keep on writing!

Thank you very much for ur review of the song. I wanted to use pan flute but i don have any good enough samples :X.. any ideea where i can get chinese instrument samples or pan flutes .. garritan doesnt have pan flute
:(... lol...

Don't use Chinese instruments for this piece. Di or xiao does not match the type of music you wrote - it is important to tie both the origin of ethnic instrument to type of music you are writing.

Look for some free soundfonts. Are you using a midi controller or does your keyboard have soundbanks? Most keyboards will have pan flute - part of GM bank.

When writing, always write according to what instruments you have. In this case, I would use the flute if I don't have pan flute and not use the delay. Again, as I said, that's my personal preference.

For example, my current sample library (Advanced Orchestra) does not have very short string spiccato. I always wanted to write for that but have not because my samples cannot do a better job. So I don't write spiccato parts. Also I have to avoid lush strings, expressivo type sounds as my strings are quite limited. (But I'll be able to in a month's time - waiting for my new library to arrive: Kirk Hunter Symphonic Orchestra... cant' wait!).

ok thx.. i think i'll use my S03's panflute. But theres some delays when i play back with my sequencer man... any idea how to fix this?..

Hmm. The latency should not be more than your GPO; in fact should be lower latency. Need to know your entire set-up + midi routings.

If all else fails, just record live.

hey, that was nice...
its like a soundtrack of an epic war movie. its great, i love the dynamics of the song. the ending is like the hero coming back from the war and see his whole village burnt down. he thought everyone was gone, but then his pregnant wife and kids come running to him, and they hug. all in slow motion...i like it lots... *clap, clap, clap, cheers!!!*

Wah so imaginative!!! Yeah that's what music is all about. It's all about heart & soul. As for me, I can feel the emotion through music, but not lyrics. Quite funny huh.
