OM: Now I Can Fly (Some Weirdo Bird-Related Rock Ballad)

This song is about the how a little bird grows up, learns to fly, faces the world all alone and in the process of discovering life, encounters hostilities, fights them, wins and comes out victorious in the end.

Ok, ok...enough of such rubbish. Hope you all enjoy this. The backing track is created using GB...didn't really program much of the drums so that's going to sound somewhat monotonous.

Aren't you tired of seeing this Killinghall? No substance whatsoever.

Anyway, I think you have a very 80s vibe there. The drums are fine since it is a guitar instrumental, and most of us who listen in are guitarists, so yeah, kind of takes away the emphasis on the drums.

I found the echo/delay too much though, but it does help to fill up the space of the lead somewhat.

With regards to the melody, perhaps it might be too scale-orientated. A lot of runs up and down, its perhaps too typical, too satriani-ish.

For the harmonised passages, you could try to not harmonise in 3rds all the way, and follow the chord changes more while harmonising. Might be worth the while to explore.

Only the beginning has a melodic hook, but if thats what you choose to have it done so, why not? The theme I hear isn't one that is a melody line, but a chordal/backing theme.

I don't quite get the "encounters hostilities, fights them" section, the whole piece seems more like discovering life then living it to the fullest if you know what I mean.

Good playing, nice satriani-vibe thru-out, though I think I have heard better from you... :D

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your commentary effort - it's appreciated, inasmuch as you've grown weary and tired of my substance-less playing.

:)

I apologize if my "No substance whatsoever" comment above was misunderstood.

It was not directed at you, but at psionic; most of his "comments" in OM have been nothing but as the above, which serves no one, the listener or musician (you), any benefits.

There was no ill intent towards you, killinghall, whatsoever, and my comments were sincerely thought out, in the spirit of discussing your music.

Should you think otherwise, then I shall cease to further comment on the music you have been putting forth, no hard feelings on my part.

Daniel,

No worries, keep the comments going - you almost misunderstood me sometime back then too...so maybe this 'evens' things out...

:)

Yeap. :)
Its all okay man. We're @ 1-1 no? :D

I never thought your music had no sustance. In fact, I always thought you put in your heart into the playing.

1-1, at half time only.

Well you're right about the song being too scale-orientated. That was my last thought before I finally posted the song.

And please ignore the part about the bird-story. It came from the wife. Don't ask me why.

half time?!? Dooooooddddd.... no more misunderstanding ba...
SOFT is helping me become a better scriptwriter I tell you.

Its always the ladies who know how to conjure up interesting descriptions of music eh?

What do the guys have? Juice. Groove or Die. I am a Viking. For the Love of God. Surfing with the Alien. Sleepwalk. Mount Fuji Christmas. The Butcher. :x

Yes, half-time. I think we need no further emphasis about how commonplace misunderstandings are in chatrooms and forums.

As for the ladies, um, that's why I got married. To add that missing creative aspect in my life. Hahahahahah!

:D

Hi Yan,

Yes its the GT-8. I like it very much too over the 6. How's the studio sessions coming along man...?

I like the tone in general, I felt that some parts in the song should have cut through but was rather compressed. Anyway, that's really minor. Great legato runs. Nice satch inspired! What rig u usin? Haha.

Hi dwarf,

Yes, legato has become much of my playing over the years. I use a Fender Strat plugged to the Boss GT-8, lined in directly to my Powerbook.
