From offsetguitars.com's new and reissue section:
The topic is about the new Fender Blacktop Series. I initially wanted to save up for a jazzmaster(JM) so I can have one without spending a bomb. I was planning to convert it into a traditional one as they come spec'd for rock. But I came across this post which is most likely true and a real dealbreaker for me.

"There's a thread in the mods and projects section...that basically confirms, if you're not looking to route the body...Fender made it really really hard to transform this into a traditional jazzmaster, and that even the jazzmaster pickup in the neck is a slightly different size from the standard 3rd party pickups. Don't have the thread link on hand, but I believe the poster tried to fit a lollar JM pickup in the neck and it didn't fit. Fender, you bastards. You basically took out all the fun in making an accessable sub $500 offset."

Damn it.

heh, that would be pretty logical for them from a business point of view

As for buyers, too bad, guess it still back to, "i want _____, i shall save up somehow, to get it".
