palm muting with my ZR floyd equipped ibanez sabre has always left me sad. it isnt as tight and focused as my hardtail epiphone, and the bass seems really mushy too. is this normal for floyd guitars? or could it be of technique or something else? help appreciated!

Matt, you have to understand first of all, there are so many factors involved in your "a/b" testing.

First, different guitars, with same woods, but differnet body mass.

Different neck scale.

Different pups?

You see, you have an unbalanced arguement.

However, it is true that floyds have a down side when it comes to rhythm. It does NOT sound muddier or bassier or less focused. In fact, it WILL sound thinner, more metallic and just as focused IMO. Thats why I got myself a hardtail.

Simply put,

you try to drift turn a racing car, then try to do the same on a two tonner truck.

Different worlds.

Hahha... well, there will be a difference lah... but seriously, you put in some block, its not like as if the whole area is as solid a per a hardtail, all wood.

You put in say, some wood, whats going to join the wood to the trem? Glue? Tape? Do those help transfer of vibrations well? No. So.....?

Been using Floyd Rose for as long as I can remember and have no problem getting a gd chug while palm muting.. Maybe need to get use to it abit more IMO...
