OC: Give me your best shot!

Hi, here are my two cents - for takeallyoucan, are you eventually going to put vocals to it? Coz I was waiting for some vocals and it never came hehe... also some pinch harmonics are rather inappropiate.
For bringallgoodpple, the rhythm sounds too fuzzy for me, cannot hear it clearly, maybe it's a matter of taste though.
Girlfriend is nice and smooth, but its also begging for some vocals.
how are you recording the electric guitar? Sounds quite noisy/fuzzy to me..is it done purposely?

Pier.

No vocals YET for the songs but I do have a god idea of what's required. Recording done quite badly - so I might as well not say too much about it. Pinch harmonics I like for Take All U Can - perhaps a little too much. All in all that was a bit of an experimental take of the song. Now I have a better idea for arranging it and what to play and not to play. But any feedback is great.

Girlfriend is sweet but needs a bit more work on the solo. The guitar part is OK but still needs some work - just not too sure what though. ;-)

Bring All Good People is deliberately fuzzy. I was looking for a warm tone with some heavy feel to it - almost like a distorted piano. If you know the song No Quarter by Led Zep, the live vesion has a piano part (I just cant recall the name of that type of piano) but that's the sound I'm trying to emulate. Without a distorted tone, I was afraid that it'll be too pop-pish. besides, with other instrumentation I have in mind, it should gel quite well. If anything perhaps I have to find a better sound that still gives me the edge I'm looking for, without as much fuzziness. Just enough for an edgy feel but not too much where it interferes with the music.

BTW, there's a 4th song at the same URL. It's something I came up with a few days ago. Nice melody but needs a lot more arrangement. Still, it's worth a listen - I think.

Cheers

Here's my take:
Girlfriend: Solo seems alittle off time towards the end. Song is nice and smooth, but there isnt a climax in the song which i feel can bring out the mood more. Song is relatively linear now.

Bring All Good Pple: I like the rhythm guitar alot. But i dun see how it can be turned into a song if the solo just comes in so quickly. And yea the solo ended alittle abruptly too. Shld let it scream at the end and trail off.

Take All You Can: Catchy hook. But like lppier, theres too much pinch harmonics. Sounds like u are doing it just because u can. Keep it controlled and within the hook then it shld do just fine.

Personally i feel tt without the vocals it's v hard to judge. Because the main melody line is lacking, which could either make or break the song. And umm, it will do u well to switch the drum beats for each section of the song instead of just having one drum beat go all the way.

Yup tt's pretty much it. One man band too eh? Welcome to the club 8)

U diff la. Each of ur fingers on ur left hand = one man.
So technically speaking u have 6 man in ur band.
Dun lie!

Hi Chang
Hmm, Girlfriend needs a little bit more arrangement (perhaps 20-30% more) - there's actually a 2nd chorus. It comes right at the end of the version you've heard. It has a decent riff (more oomph) and with the newer arrangement it is supposed to come up twice during the song. The solo needs tweaking (about 30-50%).

Bring All Good People - hmmm. I think it'll work out fine. I actually edited the way the solo 'appears'. It should be fine once I get the recording mechanics right. As for the ending of the solo, I agree with you. The rhythm and the solo were recorded in two different takes and the song was meant to be played by a single guitar player. Without other instruments, it's kinda hard to work the end of the solo to continue to the rhythm. Good point nonetheless. And I was using a single coil - wished I had a decent2good humbucker to give me the required sustain.

Take All U Can - you're both right in that there are too many pinch harmonics. There are occasions where it works really well but there are others where it sounds like it's being forced. And I don't do it because I can. I did it because I still can! :) . I've just started playing the guitar after a loooooong while. Been doing mostly acoustic after picking up the guitar recently and managed to borrow an electric to see how things go.

And as for vocals. I'm really not too concerned. Not wanting to sound cocky but I think that the melodies there should provide decent expectation(s) to the singing lines for the songs. Just need a good band to play them and an even better singer to bring out the energy.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated.
