Not just your typical "I wanna study Music Tech @ Lasalle....HELP!!!!!" thread.

First and foremost this isn't going to be another typical "HELP.....I wanna study music tech @ Lasalle" kind of thread which has be surfacing constantly during "seasonal" periods every year.

Okay so here it goes....

I'm really dead serious about studying music technology in Lasalle. I've been doing some self reflection and questioning on what I want to with my life after NS and came to a conclusion that this is what I want to pursue. I will ORD in June and as such I'm gunning for this year's August intake. I wish to start from Foundation year onwards as I feel that my music theory stuff is kinda rusty.

Over the years I've met people who are in the music related industry (performers, sound engineers, composers etc) and have been duly exposed to their scope of work. My audition lovelovelove interview is this Saturday and I really want to give it my utmost best shot at this.

A little background on me:

1) Graduated from poly with a dip
2) No formal music certificates
3) Been playing piano for 4 years and keyboard for 2 years
4) Has performing experience

This is what I'm currently doing:

1) Chiong grade 5 music theory as I understand there will a music theory equivalent to grade 5. I bought assessment books and a guidebook for this. That's more or less done, just need to do some last minute revising before D Day.

2) Portfolio consisting of 3 self composed MIDI pieces via home recording system.

3) Completed my audition assignments

4) Resume/CV inclusive of past performances.

So basically that's it.

I would like to ask if there are any current Lasalle music tech students here. If there are, what are the lecturer's expectations towards the applicants during the interview/audition? What are they currently looking out for when assessing applicants portfolios? Any X factor perhaps?

I understand that the interview/audition will be done classroom style. In that you have to present your portfolio to the rest and talk about your dreams, aspirations, direction in music etc. When I first applied 5 years ago, it was like a 1 to 1 interview/audition but now what from I was being told by past students, the interview/audition has changed.

Therefore all in all, any current Lasalle music tech students who are willing to give their inputs on this issue?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated. :)

Regards
Julius

A music dip or degree can help you in music education area. Or do backstage. These two can give you three meal to eat. Music education will be the one growing very fast. Backstage is growing too as more gig/concert especially with those IR project, and other factor. If you wanna do music production, at the moment I see a bit tough. There are many studio bosses here to share with you.

If you're interested to hear from an ex music tech student (graduated last year) PM me and we can chat offline.
