Normal sting VS antirust strings

Ahhhh, my strings just snapped while bending due to rust... =( And it's not the first time... Intending to get Blue Steels after this, or maybe Elixirs, but I dislike it's weird feel.

I'd change my strings immediately when there's signs of rusting... Won't let any rusty string remain on my guitars while I can help it. I must say... Keeping my guitars in their gigbags sure does wonders. My Ernies seem to last forever, even with my constant changing of tunings.

dang, imma go try StandardValue's Cleartone strings when I have the time, I heard they're not as plasticky as the Elixirs, yet they can last as long.

I've been using the clear tone's. I get them from maestro. about $19-$20 a pack. last me a couple of months per set and its definately cheaper than some other brands. no complaints so far with the quality but if a strings snaps, hahaha... now thats another story altogether.

Aha. you could try the aurora too. its coated but to me i really dont like the colours of it as the picking area might be faded after a while.causing to like a pullback on the cosmetic of it. and make my guitar look weird. heh

Btw the aurora have a great bright tone and the have a sliperry feeling. and makes slides easier. seems no rust using for quite a long time but i really hate the coloured chiips. but i think you can try the elixrs ..aha most of the guitarist used it i think.but i think its quite costly for $16 but its worth the money.

btw. dunno why but i still like my ernie balls.sorry for contridicting heh:mrgreen:. btw correct me if im wrong on the info

i just re-string my guitar to black diamond black coated strings. seems to like the tone..........$15 bucks.....

I'm currently using Aurora :). The strings feel very smooth and the red strings look awesome on my pitch-black guitar :). After a while the color on the area where your pick strikes will fade a little but I think it looks cooler after that haha. Anw you can get Aurora strings at Davis for $16 a pack

1 pack of elixirs = ~15
Bulk packs of daddario EXLs = 10 for 58 at blackwood

1 pack of elixirs = last 3 months
3 packs of daddarios = last 3 months

For a marginal price difference, you get new strings every month.
New stings always sound better than old strings. :)

I heard a lot of bad things about Cleartones so I doubt I'm going to try them anytime soon unless I have extra cash. But for coated strings, my vote goes to Dean Markley Alchemys because they sound great, lasted very long, and sounded great straight after re-stringing, so if I need to restring my guitar and the show's just the next day (or even a few hours away), I'd head to Davis and grab a pack of Alchemys. And they're cheaper than most coated strings, a $16.

Now, if they would make Alchemys for electric as well, I'd switch over to Dean Markley.

there's no such thing as 'ANTI RUST' in a guitarist's dictionary, it will rust no matter what. just learn to wipe after play and it'll last, i usually buy ernie ball super slinky for 6.5 at sweelee and usually last me 2 months or so but i do apply fast fret for easier playing and i like the feeling of super smooth strings so yea. hope it helps.

Agreed. They'll still rust once the anti-oxidation coating wears off. And pretty fast, too. Personally I'd stick to uncoated Ernie Balls, Dean Markleys and D'addarios...

I dropped by Davis yesterday.

Daddario 10 packs are 46. They are individually packaged sets of 6. Exactly like normal single pack daddarios, less the extra cardboard cover.

They are all inside 1 box.

Good value, 4.60 per pack.

They are sealed inside the anti rust packaging.

there'll always be the debate on how long strings last, but thing is, as long as you're happy with the tone its not SO much about string life, yeah it'll cost a bomb maintaining strings if they break every week but hey, tone's about personal preference aye.

i'm usually a user for cleartones and never had any problems with them.
last weekend, i bought some aurora's from davis. 2 sets of 10's and had them installed on my strat but there was some proiblem with the high E string. First installation made the string somewhat un-tunable. and when i tkept tuning it, the ball end came off. It's not a snap but the ball end kinda unwinded itself. and came off. So with that being gone, i replaced it with another high E string from the other set and the same thing happened again. At first i thought it was my bridge but when i put in a set of clear tones in later, nothing happend and worked well.

Hmm... kinda pricks when this kinda thing happens. Might be a manufacture fault soemwhere. I didnt overtune it. i used a tuner on standard tuning.

So those who are going to use the aurora's, please be a little weary of this.
I bought the 10's in gold.

:(

IMO

I used elixirs once and though they dont die out fast they wear out/ change the tone a little.. But on top of that they're great strings..

Im using D arddio nickel wound.. the one that comes in set of 3 for $15.. V v worth it strings. Given Elixir and D arddio its hard to choose between the two honestly for me..

Ive tried strings from Dunlop all the way to DR extra life to elixir to ernie ball reinforced etc etc still Elixir and D arddio work for me.

( 1 Elixir pack lasts me about 3.5-4 mths )

Note : I play everyday for a lonnng time. so yea. :D

just my 2 cents worth
